Will we ever love Pardew like we did Hughton?

    And what will it take?

I'll start by saying I'm not hung up on Hughton, nor am I anti-Pardew, just wondering what everyone thinks on this slow news day.

Hughton was our man, he was the only manager I can ever remember having every single fan behind him and he truly earned his post as manager. Added to that the underdog effect, and the dignified and classy way he went about his business in this, the most dramatic, over-the-top club ever and finally brought us some good press and had us going in the right direction.

Obviously there's no need to drag on about why he shouldnt have been sacked, but the fact that he shouldnt have been meant Pardew came in under very hostile circumstances and many fans still hold his appointment against him, suggesting he played a part in the loss of Hughton.

But he's doing a very, very good job. Aided by Graham Carr, some fantastic, low price transfers have replaced the big money earners like Nolan and Barton seamlessly, and since the start of 2011 (loss of Carroll/Barton long ball being a big factor IMO) we have started to play more attractive football. Many said they would reserve judgement on Pardew until this very season, when he would have had a pre season and his own team to mould.

My question is, do you prefer Pardew to Hughton (in every aspect, not just managerial ability)? If not, what will it take for you to, just steady progression or some measurable success (Europe/a cup)?

Hmmmmm Pardew is by far and away a better manager BUT I do wish he would keep quiet about transfer dealings. I do not think he is a well mannered or as good natured as Chrissy H. However Pards has endeared himself to me and has the team playing good football. If only he would drop Shola!!

    Can't stand the man.

I've seen the way he looks at Cabaye and it's disgraceful. When he mentions Cabaye's name you can see a dreamy glaze cloud his eyes and it's just wrong!! I just know he'll start heavy breathing when he mentions Santons name soon.

Sure Pardew, they are very handsome but for Christ's sake. You are the manager! You cannot lust after your players.

Apart from that, he's done well and the players he's brought in have given the team some alternatives in line ups.

    Loved Hughton? or "LUUUURRRRVED" Hughton?

Short answer, it would probably take a trophy.

As a person, I prefer Chrissy.

    As a manager, I'm undecided.

Didn't like Pardew before he came here and can't say I'm a great lover of him now either.

Just seems to be far too smarmy for me.

I think that Pardew is a better manager and has done an excellent job under very difficult circumstances. If by some miracle he is actually given some cash to spend in the next 2 transfer windows, and allowed to keep hold of his best players, then I think that we could do very well in the next few years.

He has brought together some young and very talented footballers into a decent squad, which, if allowed to develop, could certainly challenge the top 8.

My worry is that as these players develop and build a good reputation they will be sold on for a profit.

I still think end of the season is the best time to judge, but so far he seems the better manager, the team seems more disciplined in defence and attack, although we aren't hammering people like we were last season, but that had its own downfall of losing the games we should be winning.

Chris as a person though, he was an absolute credit to this club and its still a bit sad he wasn't given at least till the end of the season before he was sacked.

Chris Hughton did a great job in even tougher circumstances I reckon. However, it's hard to judge without having a parallel reality where Hughton remained as manager. There's nothing to suggest he couldn't have done as well as Pardew if he'd stayed. Maybe Enrique, Nolan and Carroll might have stayed, who knows.

Important thing is that Pardew is doing excellently, just hope he can sustain it.

As a man, Hughton is up there with Sir Bobby in my opinion. He's done work with the Unions, battled Apartheid, played for Ireland, transformed in a badger and all with the genuine likability, humility and class of a man who's career has NOT been spent surrounded by overpaid prima donnas.

Pardew is building a very good team, has our defence looking more organised (although with luck going the other way, things could've been very different) and playing good football (against Villa).

The time to judge Pardew will be, when like Hughton, he comes out of a ****e situation with his reputation still in tact!

I'll never grant Pardew the same affection I gave Hughton for a few reasons. Tactically I think he is better but the whole circumstance around his appointment kinda stinks. I know he just took up a dream job like any of us would but there's something missing, he doesn't have the modesty and class that Hughton projected. I've got nothing against the bloke really but I don't think I'll ever have the same kind of respect for him, even if he won us the Champion's League.

I think Pardew happens to be very unlucky following a manager who did so well and didnt need to leave, and while he's not as likeable (not to say I dont like him) as Hughton I do think he is a better manager.

He was in CH's chair before it was cold. He knew CH was being stabbed in the back and thought nothing of it.

He wasn't going to turn down the job. He had just been sacked from a League One team and wasn't looking likely to get any job, let alone one the size of this one!

I prefer Pardew over Hughton now in almost every element apart from general likeability.

Better tactics (most of the time anyway)
    Better signings
    Much better PR
    Better man-management

And despite all the love for Hughton from the players, Pardew has came in and got them all fighting for him and the club.

I cannot see how anyone can honestly have anything against him for taking up that job position. What would you expect him to say? "Oh no Mike, I'm not going to accept the largest job I'll ever be offered in my managerial career, and I'm not going to accept that huge wage, because I don't want to upset Chris Hughton, who I don't even know"

I also consider Pardew a genuine guy. I don't think for one second that he's sat in his ivory tower with Ashley and Llambias drinking brandy and laughing at us mere mortals. I think he's stuck between a rock and a hard place as he tries to tackle the board and get decisions made which are right for the club and the fans.

I'll never like how Hughton was sacked, but that's Ashley, not Pardew.

All in all, I like our manager, and if he keeps the team in the form its in now, I'd like him to be our manager for many more years to come.

Get a bloody grip man. If you were offered a MASSIVE job with a huge wage at a company, more than you've ever had before, but it meant ousting someone you had essentially never even met, what would you do?

Some people need to get real. Pardew would have been a ****ing idiot if he had actually turned that job down.

Lets not forget the two major problems in the Hughton reign...James Perch signing and Nile Ranger getting an extended contract!
