There are a load of Irish bars around Times Square. All open early on Saturdays for the live games.

Red Lion Pub on Bleecker Street. Normally has British Sports on the TV, we watched The 6 Nations there this year.

I can recommend Rosie O'Grady's 7th Avenue. They sell magners.

I can also recommend the Renaissance / Marriott Hotel Times Squre not so much for the footie, although it does have tellies but what bar in America doesn't, but it has great views ( my wife told me to pass that on ). I'm sure you are aware that drinking in Manhatten isn't cheap bottles are $7 and up and a decent pint a bit more. And forget about drinking shorts unless you are prepared to sell your organs..

I stayed in the Rennaisance last year, cracking hotel. The Red Lion is very good for British Sports; if you are staying in the Times Square area there is an Applebees around the corner from Times Square, just off Broadway that show live sports, although it's mainly NFL and Baseball.

I've had a nightmare finding live games in New York, I was once trying to watch England v Wales and I couldn't find anyone showing it. After an hour of running from one bar to another(and missing kick-off), I finally found one, you had to pay to get in and it was full of American Irish who were either the game before or the game after ours. Having watched a fairly dull fifteen minutes, I went outside for a cigarette and Beckham went and scored.

OML that reminds me of being at a wedding in Las Vegas, 2008 the same weekend as the win at Arsenal and being unable to find a casino showing the game live. I only found out the result when my brother in law ( a mad gunner ) called my crying. Happy memories.
Now every premiership game is live on tv in the states. Just goes to show how popular english football is. They show a load of championship games live also and for some reason they feature mainly Leeds.

If you're in the US, then the best place to watch games is LA, as it's full of Mexicans and they love the Premier League.

Here in Hong Kong, they show all the Sky games on Star Sports(which is Murdoch's Asian channel), are they all on his channel(Fox Sports) in the US now?

Yeah, Fox Soccer has two or three live EPL games every weekend and the rest are either shown on Fox Soccer Plus (which is an extra $12 a month on satellite) or shown on tape delay on Fox Soccer. I think these are taken from the TWI international feed. ESPN does the early Saturday kickoff live too, and those are by far the best produced and presented matches I've ever seen. Ian Darke (who has become kind of a cult hero over here) and Steve McManaman commentate. They look great, they sound great, ESPN promotes the hell out of them, and they get ratings, which is great for the game as a whole in the US.

DirecTV actually carries every Europa League and Champions League match, too. Featured games are on the Fox Sports Net regional network of stations, and the final airs on Fox (the big one).

This may or may not have been useful to you, OLM, but I don't often have much to contribute and I try to help when I can. <party>

Theres supposed to be a pub up by central park about the 80th Ave area on the right hand side before you get to Harlem that is owned by a city fan.
I went looking for it last Jan but it was chucking it down with snow so I gave up on it.
Like someone said bars in Manhattan are not cheap but if you do'nt mind that then there is plenty of great ones around

Hi all, first time I have posted but I do enjoy reading the exchanges. I have lived in New York for 7 years. Grew up in East Yorkshire, been a City fan since the 1970s. Best soccer bar in New York for me is Nevada Smiths at 74 3rd Avenue between 11th and 12th Street (close to Union Square). Great atmosphere and good beers at moderate prices (for NY). Check out their website http://www.nevadasmiths.net/

I don't get to see too many live games now but I got over for the playoff final at Wembley in 2008 and the 2-1 win a few months later over Arsenal at the Emirates. I think I picked wisely:)

I recall hearing the one about the City fan owning a bar in NYC. I was in the New York when we played Wolves away in Sept 07 (I think) and had to find an internet cafe to discover the score, eventually finding one above a McDonalds store near to Ground Zero. The other punters all gave me a funny look when I went "YES" on finding out we won 1-0 thanks to a Deano penalty. Happy days..
    PS thanks for the replies

I quite like the Union Square area, I've stayed at the W Hotel there a couple of times(nice hotel, as long as you don't want to swing a cat) and I know the bloke that owns Rothman's(Men's clothing store) there. It's quite a good place to stay if you like walking, it's close enough to walk to Soho and close enough to walk to Central Park, though my mates from New York seem to think I'm mental walking anywhere.
