I'm not making comment just relaying what your UK law is in your country. To précis, you have the right to free speech but the law constrains what you can say. As for the stewards at ER, it is a private venue with its own rules I guess, a bit like a private club and so if they don't like you, for whatever reason I guess they can throw you out, ban you etc, their call. I'm not sure though, perhaps somebody else knows?
You make a very good point about the riles of the venue, tbf. Based on a very PC version of the law, right enough. They want rid of lowlife like me to attract more of the prawn sandwich brigade. Btw, Eric, you got any plans to come over & take in a game whilst you're here? If so, we can set up a meetup well in advance.
What makes you think they (the club) wish to rid themselves of supporters like you ? I'm pretty sure they don't but please enlighten us further...maybe your stuffing your pockets with discounted confectionary and selling it to the kids round the back, or they've monitored your pie purchases and they fall below the minimum requirement ? Also, just because you've bought a ticket to attend a football match why do you think it comes with the right to hurl offensive abuse ? Let's put aside any racist, homophobic, sectarian etc abuse (in other words illegal abuse) and focus on the swearing and general hatred of opposition fans, players, managers and match officials. We've had this conversation before and we obviously see things very differently. In my opinion, for example, when the whole crowd chants ' your not fit to referee ' it's transmits a far more effective message to the officials than caling someone a w****er/b*****d wearing black as used to happen. That's just one example of how football supporters have/are evolving away from the vile, hate filled bile, that existed previously.
Not like you WJ... Neither the question dodging nor the glibness...but hey ho. Hopefully having a good blaspheme (at the football) helps you be a better person elsewhere and those nearest and dearest to you appreciate and reap the benefits. Lots of people are completely different once they enter a football stadium, my own father being one. It was quite a shock to witness his behaviour first hand and he explained it as his release from the stresses and strains of life, work, family etc etc. Each to their own, just not my thing.
Our game yesterday was typical of the "generation thing" jammy spoke of earlier in the thread. Some dodgy decisions went against us and after 4/5 dubious offside decisions, someone called the lino a bent barsteward. Up went the flag, ref stopped game and spoke to both managers, and lino has complained about homophobic chanting Obviously doesn't know that bent= crooked. It's getting sillier by the week
Exactly how I saw it TC, first I thought someone had said something racist but when the tannoy said “homophobic “ I was gobsmacked as to how stupid they were being. Bent equals corrupt and if the Lino was a bender no one knew at the time.
Gilbert O'sullivan once sang a lyric 'seems like only yesterday i was cheerful bright and gay' til the shirtlifters adopted the word for their banditry he since changed the word to happy, when singing the song it came from live Tom Robinson one sang a song called 'sing if you're glad to be gay', i wonder in todays day and age if someone sang 'sing if your glad to be straight' there would be a massive snowflake meltdown
