I actually think that’s the nub of it. It’s a balancing act for him. Why bother spending big bucks now. Still may not get promoted. He can sell up at any time anyway and make a tidy profit plus the substantial wages he’ll have collected in the meantime. If we got to the pl he likely knows he’d still have to sell all or part of the club as he can’t finance it so it’s a no lose situation if he sticks as he is

 

Let’s just expand on that a bit
Just supposing by some miracle we did get promoted he spent nowt at end of year he gets his dibs from the kitty we get relegated he gets first lot of parachute payments then sells the club that could be his 5 year plan

The point I raised last January... was he doesn’t have the money. He hoped he could get away with it... we were top after all. If he had to get external investment in it diluted his profit.

That was my view then.

12 months later I’m not sure what’s changed. Other than the smoke and mirrors of efl regulations. Maybe those concerns are legit.. in which case you go back to year 1 with radz and orta... the ‘seville’ buy an u23’s team and hope one ends up worth 50m strategy. Something I thought was a lovely idea but only if you could afford it... sustainable long term future and all that... but should never get in the way of the first team priority. They canned that idea and radz made a fairly public indirect dig at orta for it.

so skimping now or paying for previous fck ups take your pick... but the buck stops at the top
