‎3 for me tomorrow all at Newmarket 4.30 Fictional Account 5/1 NAP 5.05 La Fortunata 18/1 5.40 Chapter and Verse 6/1 NB Will get write ups done later and if you want to back Chapter and Verse take the price now as he's getting smashed
2.10 Newmarket- What a lovely, lovely maiden this looks to be, including a half brother to Workforce in the shape of MOONSHIP. However, I oppose this one today with two selections: a) STATURE 10/1- I believe this is fairly highly thought of in the Balding yard (I think GDC possibly, or Heisenburg? can confirm that he might even be in their top three) and he ran his debut in a very hot conditions race- running green but still keeping on to be beaten 7.5 lengths by the very good FARHAAN (Will soon be rated 100+). He finished within 2 lengths of an excellent yardstick in the way of LORDOFTHESHADOWS (98), and only 4 lengths behind KINGLET, who beat Group 2 Royal Lodge fancy this Saturday MOST IMPROVED on his debut. If he comes on for the experience this horse ought to be right there, and they will have to be very much above average to keep him out of the frame. b) IMPERIAL ORDER 13/2- Bare form figures do not look great but they don't even tell half the story. On debut he looked pretty green but travelled well and started to stay on nicely late on after being hampered badly 2f out. Then on second start he began to make menacing headway but so did a couple of Godolphins horses and they sandwiched him between Curzon Line and Dynamic Duo, just as Imperial Rome looked to be heading for the gap. He had to be snatched up and we will never kknow just how close he would have got to some very useful types that day. However, he will be more forward than a lot of these on now his third start and he looks pretty smart. Granted a clear passage, he should go well. 2.45 Newmarket: MAGIC CITY 3/1 (NB)- Went off the rails a little bit after an excellent debut where he posted a very fast time- looking top notch. Hannon and Hughes have since been teaching the horse to settle and he duly looked a good talent LTO at Doncaster, travelling supremely well before getting absolutely no luck in running whatsoever, an unlucky 3rd behind Ghostwriting, who re-opposes. It seems to me that the change in tactics in the way he is ridden is to accomodate a step up in trip- last time up to 7f and today up to a mile. I think he looks a miler and really do expect him to go well today, and hopefully prove he is back to his best. 4.30 Newmarket: THEOLOGY 13/2 (NAP)- Looked to be heading back to its best on penultimate start and then travelled like a dream at Doncasters St Leger meeting before the slow pace turned it into a farcical sprint for home and Richard Hughes had nowhere to go. If continuing the improvement, this is well set to earn some black type. 5.05 Newmarket: MADANY 12/1 e.w- This could turn out to be a ridiculous price. Has only two poor results to its name- was so, so unlucky in running at York LTO in June, running out of room on a couple of occasions and having to switch left and further left and ending any hopes of making the frame. The other poor run, if you can call it that, was a 7L behind Wooton Bassett last season in another red hot race. I just get the impression that he might have a bit of extra class than the rest of this field and if on song from a couple of months off, could go very, very well.
I may not have any time to do right ups but I fancy Fictional Account a lot, Chapter and Verse is getting very short so I wouldn't go nuts with the 9/2 best available. La Fortunata finally gets the good to firm ground he's been looking for but I'm slightly concerned of the step up to 6f (has raced once over this distance and won a 4 runner event). That said I definitely think 20s available is much too big. A new 1 I like the look of a lot is 3.40 Pontefract Captain Royale 20/1. On the face of it this looks an insane price. The Tracy Waggott yard have hit top form in the last few days and this represents her only runner and indeed Patrick Mathers too. This C+D winner, one of only 2 in the field at a very unique track, has won here off the same mark in a Class 4 event last year for this trainer. Tomorrow represents a Class 5 event and only this 6 year olds 2nd start since rejoining the Waggott yard after a spell with Colin Teague. He won 3 times last year for this yard and after a spell out in a Class 2 contest where he was miles out of his depth I fancy him to go close at a big price, especially if a bit of rain came.
Workforce's half brother isn't up to too much atm. I am told that Bell and Tregoning like theirs but im leaving this race.
TopC: Stature was indeed highlighted by myself, i was told he was very special and Mr Balding rates him very highly. Agree he ran very well on debut and this yards horses always improve greatly 2nd and 3rd time out. ROTO: Rounders and I have been following Ms Waggotts horses over the past few days, missed the 40/1 winner though Captain Royale must have a great EW chance with all her horses running so very well.
Morning, everyone. Quite reasonable cards today and they may even feature one animal that could be destined for the old 'top table'. In fact I'll nominate that beast today: Champion Court (3.30 Perth) - this one had a very decent debut season in the old NH sphere with a couple of wins (including at Grade 2 level) and a 4th place in the staying novices championship heat at the Cheltenham Festival. Now switched to fences Champion Court promises to be even better over the big 'uns. I envisage a win for him today and a very productive season for the old boy. Good luck to all today, people.
Morning everyone Decent looking jumps card at Perth today with once again a number of Irish runners coming over to try and grab some of the spoils. My nap vote today however goes to a French horse trained by the Twister and ridden by Son-of-Twister Sam - Astracad in the 3.30. Rated 140 over hurdles, Astracad is a very interesting recruit to the novice chasing ranks this season. On hurdles form behind Bob's Worth I have Astracad and likely hotpot Champion Court pretty closely matched but I think Champion Court really wants further than today's 2m4f and think Astracad offers better value at around the 3/1 mark (Champion Court 5/4). Elsewhere on the card, Gordon Elliot should take the first with Manger Hanagement and it will be interesting to see whether dual winner Sir Johnson can land another bumper for Peter Bowen. Sir Johnson is currently joint fav with the Twisters Peg Leg who is clearly fancied to go close on debut. Best of luck everyone
Nass, I may be wrong (rumour has it that I have been once or twice in the past) but I think a few half decent performers have started their hurdling/chasing career at this quite nice Perth meeting in the past. Agree though that with still almost 6 months to go to Cheltenham it is early to be debuting a possible good ‘un. I doubt if Champion Court will be quite up to winning a Jewson or RSA at the festival but can see him taking quite high rank amongst the novice chasers this term. Still think Mr Henderson’s Mossley, if all goes well, will be a tough nut to crack in the latter contest. That One For Joules from yesterday was indeed claimed for £10k by the way. By a Mr Flint whom I’m guessing is the same chap who is the father of jockey, Ryhs. Interesting to see how she will get on trained on this side of the water.
STATURE been withdrawn!! Maybe they like the other one with Fortune aboard. Rounders: 365 are best at 16s for Captain Royale
Opera at football. What is this world coming too. SBC, Perth is one of the more high profile Northern NH stomping grounds, still surprised to see it out so early.
SBC Ive read Keighleys blog and Champ has schooled very well at they expect this one to go very far this year over the larger obstacles. ""I'm really excited about getting him started. He's done everything right at home, his work has been good and his schooling has been very good," said the Gloucestershire-based handler. "He's always looked a chasing type and, to see him school, you can just see he is made for the job. "He obviously did very well over hurdles and hopefully he can go right to the top over fences. "We're starting him off quite early but the last two winters have been very bad and I just thought if we can get some nice ground, we might as well get some experience into him. "That is why we've travelled to Perth, as it's lovely ground up here. "I've left plenty to work on, as you would expect, but he should be fit enough to get the job done." Mccoys on board as stable jockey Ian Popham had an accident on the gallops and will be out for a bit. How do we all think Farraaj will get on? Im tempted to have a go, but would have to be a decent sum to get a nice return?
I see 1’s pulled out of the contest, Oddy (Trendelenburg). Cats, personally I wouldn’t want to get involved in the heat. I think Faraaj will go very, very close but 11/8 is quite short given that a couple of top stables have a couple of relative unknowns in the race. Only 50 minutes to go until the draw for the Cambridgeshire is revealed to the old general public. Will it be as important as the old Ayr one was?!?
To be expected Sir Barney, Trendelenburg had a feel of McCoy's whip at Perth last night and was pulled up
With the withdrawl of Stature in the 210 Newm i am starting to believe that Dandy could be an EW alternative from the same yard. Although missing the kick quite badly on racecourse debut, he made the ground up (possibly too quickly) and then faded away. However he was only beaten about 9l by a certain Farraaj who has gone on to win nicely twice since that race. At 25s he is a nice EW proposition with Jimmy Fortune in the plate
