I don't know if they still have it these days, but you used to get what was called Economy 7 electricity. I think originally it was about a third of the price to run stuff over night. So you plugged in a timer, which would come on overnight for stuff like your washing, and it would be done by the time you got up in the morning. Being older and wiser, would I do that now, no chance!
Our kid has just bought a bigger gaff, I went round and they've got one of these lights hanging down from the previous owner in the lounge, with about 10 fooking candle bulbs hanging out of it, each end of the room - not energy bulbs in it either! I took one look and said you'll be needing to change that and explained how much leccy it would be using!
