I suppose working through the night and sleeping during the day can work, if it's a permanent arrangement. But I'm pretty sure the lack of daylight would eventually cause issues and trying to sleep when it's daytime can present its own problems anyway.
My old man used to work nights. And I remember me and my brother trying to stay quiet when he was sleeping in the day, near on impossible. And he'd often be up around midday bleary eyed, having given up on trying to get any more than 4-5 hours in.

I think the days of a 3 shift pattern are now nearly gone..People who do nights, just do nights.I suppose working through the night and sleeping during the day can work, if it's a permanent arrangement.
