Never been a lover of Southampton, West Quay is OK, I have to get dragged there by the wife. I don’t mind Portsmouth I prefer Gunwarf to West Quay. I suppose I see similarities between Southampton & Portsmouth with Cardiff & Swansea and I liken Portsmouth to Swansea and that’s why i prefer Portsmouth. Some lovely areas in Southampton so much better than Portsmouth.
Every where has it's good and bad points . Loathe West Quay , killed the high street . Honestly don't know much about Ppompey , been a couple of times . Old town is nice . Think Southampton has more parkland . Pompey has the Victory Mary rose etc .. One thing I simply don't get is the actual HATRED and yes it comes from both sides . I have cousins who live in Exeter and Plymouth , they never talk FFS ! Might be because I moved to Southampton when I was 8 ?
We have the same we have hatered with Cardiff and believe me it is hatered and I’m one of them. For me and I’m sure sone of the lads on here would agree with me, the hatered is not football is economically. I can see it since I left Swansea for Fareham 20 years ago because of work. My work takes me across the UK and when I’ve gone to Cardiff it’s a different city to the one that was there 20 years ago. Government and Welsh Assembly money stops at Cardiff, Swansea are like Oliver going up and asking for a few crumbs and we get tossed the odd project to shut us up. Only in the last year we are now seeing investment being made in Swansea. The Welsh Assembly only see Cardiff as worthy of investing into, to them Wales is Cardiff and basically **** the rest of the country. That’s my political rant over, now to hope we turn Cardiff over today. It’s even sweeter to beat Cardiff when your brother in law’s a Cardiff fan.
Yes that makes sense , I work for Openreach and often hear talk of Cardiff ( we have a big centre there ) , never hear about anywhere else . Southampton is a Merchant shipping port , cruise liners etc , Pompey is primarily a Naval base ( but not only ) , so I get the money thing . Have to be honest I really don't get the hatred thing though . Like I said , perhaps its because I am not actually from Southampton ? Anyway , enjoy the rest of your weekend
