As I mentioned before, several years ago, when the BBC was criticised for being left-wing, by members of the then Conservative government, there were measures undertaken that ensured that subsequent appointed BBC governers were of a more right of centre persuasion. What we see today is a result of that.
However, those who wish to see the end of the BBC in its present form, just because of the licence fee, should think about the consequences. It is independent in its news coverage. Not swayed by advertisers or sponsors. And the BBC's profile can always return to a more left-wing stance. Take a look at mainstream news coverage in the USA, or other countries, where there is no independent channel. And why do other countries look at the BBC and wish they could have such a channel? Unfortunately, we take the BBC for granted. Largely because of a licence fee. So SKY is free is it? ITV is free is it? Think again.

I understand Prince Harry's Dad, is very upset about him quitting the royal family. Prince Charles isn't very happy either.

Whether we like the Royals or not, at least Harry and Meghan have put two fingers up to the gutter press and told them to **** right off. That has to be a good thing and it at least stops the access the press have, so whatever 'stories' these mongrels invent will only be based on supposition, hearsay and rumour. No change there then. Maybe a few more people will wake up to that fact, and realise you can only push people so far before they turn round and fight back. The mainstream media companies are completely out of control these days and it's good to see some of their vile behavior being rejected and thrown back at them.

Harry is clearly carrying a lot of anger towards the press, who he sees as being responsible for the death of his mother. Hounding someone until it causes them to have a fatal accident isn't something anyone will every really get over. No one can blame him if he feels the press are repeating the same thing all over again with his wife and so decides enough is enough. I guess most of us would feel that way. I know I would.

I am no great fan of the Royals but I also don't understand the dislike of them either. In purely financial terms they cost very little and they generate a vast amount of money for this country by way of tourism, and just by being the Royal family in residence. In a better, fairer society, we wouldn't need Kings or Queens but we have them and as long as they are here they should at least be treated with respect and courtesy, just like anyone else.

Only late 1800's - pre WW1 so far , so nothing to deep as of yet. But even in that time period he's traced someone we weren't even aware of and found an Irish bloodline.

My Dad's brother-in-law started researching his family, and also ours. Was quite amusing because my Dad who was born and brought up in Plymouth and always considered himself a Devon boy, discovered that his Dad was actually Cornish and that his Mum who was mostly South African also had Cornish roots.
We've been able to trace back to the mid 18th Century until records became difficult to track down.
My Mum's side of the family can be traced to16th Century Yorkshire/Lancashire borders - one branch of the family is descended from one of the Pendle Witches who was tried and executed in 1612. She wasa executed in York for murdering a man and had already been to trial for murdering a child, both by "witchcraft"

I find it all fascinating and the family tree seems to grow exponentially as new cousins etc are discovered who then add all the research that they've done.

At the time of the Domesday Book the population of England was 2 million....means we are all likely to be related to each other within a few steps. And (correct me if wrong) aren't all white Europeans descended from a handful of women (6?). I feel a touch of Google coming on :)

A friend of mine while writing his autobiography, mentioned that he worked in a glue factory.

I said I didn't believe him. But it's his story and he's sticking to it.
