    HUMOUR ME ???

This particular NOT606 forum is, in my opinion, the most progressive of the Sports forums. Numbers of forums have followed this one's lead. I'm hoping that, where we lead with an E&P thread, others will follow.

I’m not against the idea, but I do see a problem. At the moment climate change/environmental subjects are split between this thread and the Politics one. That’s appropriate, because often there is very much a political content to the post, and often it’s a more general topic (say, electric vehicles) more suited to Ralph’s. Do you not think that if we had a dedicated environment thread we would still have a lot of overlap with politics, and that being the case, how would we decide which thread to post in?

I think it is a good idea as long as we can post about biscuits on it too.

TSS is bang on in saying the environmental issue is the most important topic in the world today. If the thread he proposes encourages more forums to take up the subject that can only be a very good thing.

People need to be encouraged to talk and write about these things and making such a thread a sticky puts it at the top of the forum where it should be.

So Harry and Meghan are bailing out - I hope that`s a couple off the gravy train, but somehow I doubt it.

I do, when I`m paying for them, they are evading taxes, and an affront to the country.

Both the Royals and BBC would be right near the top of my get rid list.

The majority of British people...that is demonstrated again and again in polls. The reason why some people are always surprised by this is the same reason some were surprised by Brexit and the recent election results. Every country has a head of state...and they all cost money....a hereditary head of state is not divisive in the way that elevating a politician to the position would be. How divisive is Trump!!
Prince Charles is in favour of slimming down the royal family...something most people would support.
Don't know the actual figure, but the Royals cost a relatively small amount per head....you have to remember that some of the palaces and residences belong to the public and we'd have to maintain those anyway. And we mustn't forget what a draw the family are to tourists.

Found the quote about how much the Royal family cost us.

Sir Alan Reid, Keeper of the Privy Purse, said: "When you look at these accounts the bottom line is the Sovereign Grant last year equated to 65 pence per person, per annum, in the United Kingdom, that's the price of a first class stamp

It's not the cost I give a monkey's about. It's the principle of an elevated family above the rest of us, that I object to. Just because an ancestor waved a sword in the right direction at the right time. It's bloody medieval. People have said to me, "you wouldn't want to swap places with the Queen." Well, 1] how do they know? and 2] fat chance I'll ever get, as there is a bar. However, it is a minor problem, considering the issues we face globally.

I don't see the problem. The vast majority of the topics would be be about either deteriorating conditions or advancements. If I post environmental stuff on the off-topic thread it is barely looked at or reacted to, before it is on the previous page, and effectively gone. If you want to post political opinion, which involves the climate, then by all means post it in the Politics thread, or post it in the E&P thread.

Where could I post a suggestion that if you wish to continue flying abroad for your holidays [I'm finished with airliners for pleasure trips for the forseeable future] then perhaps find an app which works out the CO2 and other pollutents for the trip, and plant sufficient trees to cover your seat.

Where could I post easy places for people to look to for guidance when making environmental choices, or advice on solar panels, or a hundred other things, knowing full well where to find these things instead of being lost in the bowels of the off-topic thread.

I'd also like some advice on how-the-**** do I shift Southampton City Council's lazy arse to start installing residential rapid chargers about the city for people who don't have driveways? Also, there is a central government fund which they can take from, for just such a measure, but they seem to have no idea about.

Having this thread could be called "doing something," in it's own small way. Because it gets a message out.

For some reason I can't quite explain, I like having a monarchy. I don't particularly like any of the present incumbents that much but a royal figurehead is ok by me. I think it's the ceremony that I like most, trooping the colour or the state opening of parliament etc. It makes the country a little different and interesting IMO.
Of course they are privileged and some not very likeable, but so are presidents and other heads of state who also get their fair share of subservience, there's a hierarchy in most societies whether we like it or not. They don't directly affect my life at all so I don't resent them. I'm quite happy with my lot.

No don’t agree ref the BBC . Look at some of the programmes that have been made ref the planet .

They might never have been made if it was not for the BBC . For me it started with Kingdom of the Ice Bear .

Truly tragic where they are now .
