Anyone looking to go to USA check out Norwegian airlines from Gatwick. Depending on when you want to go you can usually get return tickets to NYC, LA, Boston and San Fran for around £400 even cheaper with just cabin baggage for short breaks.
I went Norwegian to LA couple of years ago, very impressive for a budget airline. Having said that I went to Vancouver with BA premium economy last year, about 50% dearer than economy but I'd do it again for a long flight.
I got tickets with them a couple of years back to NYC. Booked the hotel & onward flights to Portland after booking the flight. A week later Norwegian Airlines messaged & said my flight had been put back 24 hours. I got a refund & rebooked from Manchester with another airline. They can stick their Christmas Tree up their arses too.
We went to Fremantle prison when we were last there, I’d like to visit again as it was really memorable. Someone else suggested Rottnest so we’ll have to do that this time, thanks for the suggestions
We went to the Fremantle prison also when there and thought it was good. I do seem to have visited a few old prisons around Australia (not from the inside yet ). If you want to go to a good one then going back to an earlier suggestion of Tasmania, they have the Port Arthur Penal Colony, which is a really good place to visit, they are progressively renovating it back to how it was originally, and have boat tours to the Island of the Dead, where they buried everyone from the colony, convicts near the bottom of the island, wardens and families at the top.
We did the Montreal to New York rail trip a few years ago (I know you're only going as far as Albany) and it's a good route, although takes over 10 hours to cover less than 400 miles! It trundles along through some decent countryside though and the train was comfortable enough with loads of room. Although you can get food onboard we took our own supply of food and alcohol to keep us going. One thing to be aware of - at the border crossing into the US it can take a long time depending how many non-US residents are onboard. The border guards can be a right pain if they're feeling that way out - rude as hell when we were there. We had a right go at one of them who clearly thought he was special in his mirrored sunglasses - he was even yelling orders to a poor Chinese guy to stop sneezing! Hope you enjoy it.
We did the White Mountains during the fall season and it was great to see. Though if you do do it during the official season hotel prices rocket. We did Boston first, Quincy Market is well worth a visit and then drove up through the white mountains. On the way up just before the fall season started we stayed at a motel and is cost $18 a night for a double room. I then drove up into Canada to Nova Scotia to see a mate who lived there, and on the way back, which was now in full season, the same motel we had paid $18 ten days earlier was changing $150 a night.
They are the quokkas. As you probably know the name of the island comes from Rats Nest with the rats being as you inferred, the quokkas.
Which is odd really, when they are marsupials and not rodents. As marsupials were thought to be unique to Australasia, I guess they'd named Rottness before they were classified differently. Is there good eating on 'em?
I recall going from the dock in Freemantle, next to the railway station. Then on the island, hiring a bike and riding around to see all these fairy creatures like large hamsters running around.
im guessing the person who thought they were big rats probably came from Hartlepool and had a previous success in identifying French spies....
I drove from Orlando to Miami to see England play a pre World Cup friendly a few years ago, and we had a wander on Miami beach, it was alright I suppose, Collins Avenue which runs parallel to the beach is the rich persons shopping street. Miami is bastard massive it took about 3 hours to drive from the Dolphins stadium to the beach. We then drove to Key West which is about 150 mile, wouldn’t do it again because the drive back to Orlando took about 6 hours. I looked last year and a flight from MCO to Marathon was only £45 return, and the bus to Key West was only about £8, I’m planning on doing that next time
