Thanks Beddy. I think it's true to say for most on here, certainly in my experience, that the majority in those professions and across the board would strongly disagree with idea of a disintegrating EU. Is it a majority of your chums that feel that way?
Life is so simplistic hey.....if only your delusion was true....... My-your freedom consists of a government who have us under mass surveillance, no free speech and supply us not with truths but propagandist agenda's written by people who pull the strings off the puppets you vote in. Yes it was a truly scary time and those government pamphlets and films made it even worse. There was a lot of fear and anger in those days that the politicians could blow us all up at any moment. I remember going on quite a few CND marches in London with my uncle John and my aunt Sue who believed there was a better way than war and destruction. They are now getting quite old but they have never changed their values and are still involved with grass roots community work and local politics. I liked your post because I know exactly how you felt, not for why you felt it.
I was on a lot of those marches and rallies had some confrontations with authority, no respect from me unless earnt, no deference to age or position it was put up or shut up, piss or get off the pot.
There is little doubt that Brexit has the potential to be part of a process that 'helps ' destabilize Europe if the rise in nationalism is repeated in nation states. There are signs that this is possible. If the financial cycle brings a deep recession. If the middle east volatility leads to an increase in refugees, then it seems to me those in Western Europe who are still enjoying the diminishing fruits of historical colonial exploitation could pull up the metaphorical drawbridges. Add the issue of global warming, the literally burning issue being comprehensively down played by most democratically elected leaders because the consequences of effective action might have unpopular short term 'democratic issues ', then the potential for destabilising, not to mention chaos, seems quite likely. There are a few 'ifs ' in the above scenario, but would suggest it is realism rather than pessimism. C O Y R s.
Of course it wasn’t. Once they had decided that coal fires were the sole cause. (As they thought at the time) Things improved...... As technology improved so did the understanding of pollution in the atmosphere. Not all of what we understand today was known.

It was still pretty scary into the 80s to be fair. My teenage years were filled with cold War rhetoric and imagery, and I really connected with the album "Red Skies over paradise" by Fischer-Z" (1981, probably one of the most played bits of vinyl I've ever owned) The lyrics below are from the title track "Down in their bunkers under the sea. Men pressing buttons don't care about me. There's lots of sand on the cellar floor. We went down there for the night. The barricades that my brother made keeps out the light. Out in the park children were playing. Though it was dark the sky glowed red. People were stunned, everyone's waiting. Nobody knew why... But they know it now. Down in their bunkers under the sea. It was as true then as it is now, and I've never been deluded enough to think that any of the governments of the country I live in actually gave 2 ****s about me.
Unfortunately, all of the world's most peaceful societies have been built on the the blood of others. The last few decades have been a unique point in human history where violence isn't the first response to any situation. But it seems like societies inner animl nature can't be contained for too long...
Thats mostly been in a bubble in the EU and North America. South and central america, Africa and Asia have seen plenty of fighting. Even in Europe, Ukraine and the Balkans have seen their share.
My primary school was directly opposite a council depot where the air raid siren was kept. Occasionally it would be tested. That was fun at the time of the Cuba missile crisis when several of the dopier kids thought the end was nigh.
