Listening to SSN and they are reporting Offensive chants between Leeds and Man U fans, mentioning Munich from leeds and Turkey from Man U.

Although i hate Newcastle with a passion and wish them all the bad luck in the World i could never Chant anything like the above. How must the families involved in these dissasters feel.

Sorry but i can never understand this even though i have been through all rough times of the 70s and 80s violence, i did however know which teams to avoid

I heard the story on the way home. I would argue with anyone that the Sunderland/Newcastle rivalry is the most heated in England but agree that I don't think either of our clubs fans would stoop so low.

The events last night are really pathetic and shocking.

Leeds have some right scumbag fans. I say that without rancour as I have a mate who's a season ticket holder, but some of them are 24 carat bellends.

I think NUFC and SAFC have a good genuine rivalry. I don't think there is any actual hate from most fans, because due to the close proximity of the teams, many opposing supporters are intertwined as friends and family. I mean if you had a mag as a mate or family member, how could you bring yourself to be so hateful towards them?

Any severe dislike or hate is directed more at the club itself really. I could say that I can't stand Sunderland, but that isn't directed towards the fans at all. Just towards the club as an identity. I think most folk are the same apart from the actual morons who start trouble (and there are some, but thankfully they're massively outnumbered by normal nice folk.

I think the rivalry between Sunderland and Newcastle is how it is because in our times we've had very much the same sorts of experiences. Our teams at the moment are just about equal (imo ours is a bit better), we've both had great managers, and both had some stinkers. Our rivalry has stayed to do with the football, whereas teams like Leeds and Man U, Liverpool and Man U, Man City and Man U (see a trend?) just use the rivalry as an excuse to get pissed off at someone, it's got nothing to do with the game.

    Agree with every word mate.
We only have to look back at how Sir Bobby's tragic death was treated on Wear-side to realize the unique nature of our rivalry.

My daughters have been warned - if either of them knowingly get involved with a mag, or worse still brings one to my mag-free house - they will be written out of the will.

Wouldn't want to see one dead though - mag that is.

Agree totally. The north east of England is a proud area with a lot of mutual respect and this even extends to many of the idiot minority. While the English media seeks to paint an image of some sort of ultra working class land of moronic criminals, the facts remain that no north eastern city or town jumped onto the smash and pillage bandwagon during the riots this year while the rest of the country found it's idiots in a swarming care-free free for all.

I found it quite galling last night that a Leeds fan phoned Talksport and said "We never started singing until after they did"

Tit for tat it may be but it's not like it's a one on one fight (i.e. you hit me I hit you back) - the people that both sides are singing about are somebody's children, siblings etc. Doesn't matter who started it, nobody should do it (My Man U supporting mate said Leeds started singing about munich before United started the istanbul songs but I'd expect them to say that anyhow) - No excuse for any of this - does anyone sing any songs about Heysell or Hillsborough?? Not that I've heard - when people lose their lives it should be remember solemnly and not through some piss-taking songs or banners

If that had been Tottenham fans celebrating the life of a Chelsea legend it would have made national news.

Makes me very proud of not just my fellow Sunderland fans but the region as a whole.
