Talk of the Tories representing the working class is ludicrous. The striking thing about the voting demographics from the last election was not about class, but age. The under-fifties (less likely to be scared of foreigners and more likely to to be happy to benefit from free movement) voted overwhelmingly against the Tories.

YouGov has the transition at 40 not 50. Labour got 25% of 40-49. Tories got 32%.

And I suspect the percentage of voters actually bothering to vote is higher over 40, than below it.

Simply carry on refusing to accept your 2nd total humiliation in 6 months, carry on describing anyone who doesn't agree with a virtually Communist manifesto as thick xenophobes and you will continue to deserve Boris, your worst nightmare, as PM...

There you go with the Communist thing. Even more ludicrous.

What could make working class people who have been ****ed over by the Tories for 10 years vote them in again? Persuade them that all their problems are the fault of immigrants and not the government.

This is an example of the arrogant Corbyn Islington mantra that working class voters cannot formulate their own opinions but have to be given them, and are too stupid to judge what is happening in their lives and what governmental policies will work for them

Yes, but the Tories wouldn't have had a majority if the 40-49 split was the result across the board. In fact, it's only on the over 60s splits that they scored highly enough for a majority.

That's true but they were the biggest party for the 40-somethings, and had that been replicated across the board, there would have been a totally unworkable coalition created, since Swinson had already said she would not work with Corbyn, and Labour and the Scots Nats are sworn enemies

Again, voting numbers are incredibly important. If they are low for younger voters, the split for that age group has far less relevance

The Midlands and Northern constituencies that swung from Labour to Tory won the election. I was wrong when I argued that these Leave-voting seats would stick with Labour in the GE. Plainly 'getting Brexit done' was more important to many people than the NHS or schools or privatised railways and utilities. I still maintain, though, that the original referendum result was based largely on xenophobic attitudes and that it was the Tory appeal to these attitudes that won out.

Disclaimer: I am not accusing anyone on here of being a racist.

I think there is far too much credence given to stats like this, I mean who on Earth would have thought that Labour would dominate the 20s and 30s demograph and that the Tories would dominate the 50s+ demograph?

Again, an example of the thought processes of a Party that just doesn't accept that THEY got it wrong. The average person will have two or three core areas of a manifesto they consider important. They will then see what is best for them and their family and their finances and judge on the credibility of those manifestos. The bottom line is, despite the many 'freebies' on offer, Labour's was not considered credible by the electorate. The British public are clearly not as stupid as Lady Nugee and her cohorts think...

In so far as immigration was an issue for working class Leave voters, and it clearly was in many cases, it's necessary to distinguish between dislike of foreigners (which is not a British characteristic imo) and dislike of the effects of mass immigration leading to changes in culture in one generation, undercutting of pricing for local working people, strains on services like schools and doctors' surgeries etc

That is not xenophobia. And an immigration system based on taking whom we need for our economy, rather than whom we are obliged to take by the rules from Brussels, clearly appealed

Was it really that much to do with the Labour manifesto at the end of the day, though? Seems to me that it was Brexit wot won it in the seats that mattered.

In those seats it was overwhelmingly Corbyn who lost it, almost without fail northern MPs that lost their seats said they were repeatedly told on the doorstep he was the problem, his stats are the worst of any Party leader in the UK ever...

The % of votes cast to mainly Remain political parties in the GE was greater than cast to mainly Leave parties. Seems to me the Tories have no mandate to take the UK out of the EU.
