Probably is a generation thing Jammy. I just find it ridiculous how a rascist chant by one person is front page of the best selling tabloid in the country - is that really newsworthy enough for a top headline?
I'll call a **** a ****, and have done many times and not just at Elland Road I don't think for one minute anyone condones the pisstaking of some who has lost a child, it is disgusting, I think you misunderstood WJ's post mate.. I remember years ago being at ER playing Norwich, one of 'ours', a grown, man behind me shouting some vile abuse to Brian Gunn about his child who had just died from cancer I think it was, I grabbed hold of the **** and told him if he shouts any ****e like that near me again I will ****ing flatten him, he soon ****ed off
You never hear the 'Gingers' moaning about the abuse they get about their disability yet rearrange the word 'gingers' and those ****ers moan like a bitch ho'
'... another person ..." Who makes the judgement as to whether the 'other person' might be offended? It would seem that ER stewards deem that my colourful abuse will reach the ears of the ref & cause him harassment, alarm or distress. Really? Abuse that he cannot possibly hear? Or do they assume that I will alarm my fellow supporters who are clearly of the same view, given the lack of objection and indeed may well be echoing my abuse somewhat vociferously? That's the thing - I've been reported for swearing by a wee black stewardess who spends her time playing with the cross round her neck. She wanted me banned from ER. I had the stadium manager hover over me on the basis of her apparent religious beliefs - not the law! What backs this up is that no further action was taken. Notwithstanding the fact that I've heard this chap use similar language himself, as indeed most of his stewards do too. But he has to be seen to act by someone who can only be described as a religious zealot. Why is it only in a football stadium that we allow laymen lawyers to determine what behaviour is acceptable? Especially when you can hear similar all around you whenever there's an onfield incident that requires comment +/or abuse? Would your manager discipline you on the basis that a colleague reported you for calling him a 'fcuking ****er', with no witnesses? Would a cop arrest you in the street on the basis of someone complaining about your language, again with no witnesses? Not sure if you're aware, but we now have a judicial precedent here where a Judge ruled that a cop could not arrest you for swearing at him, on the basis that he was likely to use that language himself, and was exposed to it on a daily basis in the line of duty, so could hardly complain that he was harassed, alarmed, or distressed. And yet, in stadiums .....
To which particular views do you refer? Sounds to me that you're suggesting that a specific age band hold a collective set of views close to their heart. That accusation is causing me harassment,, alarm and distress. Should I call the cops now? Your language allows that inference to be taken, making you guilty, m'lud.
Never had any desire to be a steward (at a football stadium)... However, if I could get the job in your section I'd be seriously interested. Of course I'd quit as soon as you had your life ban
Stating something is of interest is not, nor ever will be, an accusation... Any alarm and/or distress you're suffering though is completely understandable. Don't call the cops yet...we haven't finished gathering all the evidence.
Aye, but you've missed the point. Read my last sentence again. It's a comment on just how easily you can be accused of something with very little evidence. It's all down to the accuser's interpretation (and perhaps bias, religious or otherwise?).
Not many jobs either where you get called 'you **** bastard' for doing your job Not seen 30000 people shouting this at a taxi driver or pizza guy for doing their job. Just a thought.
You do raise an interesting point. If 30000 are shouting the same abuse, why should it only be a handful that get arrested?
Ah, the clarion call of the privileged. If an awkward question is asked that undermines you, just ignore it.
