Having been unable to play for Charlton against Swansea City because he was signed 6 minutes too late <whistle> I fully expect the hear that Andre Green is in the starting XI for this FA Cup match.

If he isn't, then why did we bother bringing him in.
Assuming the guy is fit to play a match, he needs game time.
The only possible reason not to put him straight in, is if he is not match fit.
We had better not be told that. I'm sick to bloody death of hearing that about new signings we make.

I don't want to hear he's on the subs' bench either.
If he can't start a game we shouldn't have signed him. We have NO TIME to indulge unfit players in personal pre-seasons.

The result isn't important of course.
In fact (as I've mentioned before) I wouldn't mind particularly if Bowyer just throws this game.
As long as ticket-buying fans are kept informed of what they are paying to see, I won't be bothered.
Field all the academy kids who haven't kicked a ball yet at senior level. No problem.

But Green must play, to gain some match-sharpness.

    PS:

I assume there is no big 'announcement' or 'celebration' planned (regarding the take-over) for this pointless fixture.
It would be much more sensible to do those kinds of things on January 11th.

Bowyer has stated that he and JJ may well be on the bench. I assume he was joking, although we are that desperate, he may be sincere in what he says!!

    I’m giving Sunday a swerve.

Bilic is playing his reserve side for West Brom, and Lee Bowyer will play Solly, Sarr and nine kids. Who can blame him ?

The likes of Pratley and Lockyer have been stalwarts in recent weeks, and now deserve a ten day break.

    @lardiman

We have must win league fixtures against top 6 clubs coming up ....do you really think that Lee Bowyer is going to risk Andre Green in the 3rd round of the Cup ??

Risk him - please don't tell me he's injury prone. I can't take it.
The guy needs match-sharpness. He won't get that unless we risk him on a football pitch at some point.

I'd rather have him face the real WBA on Jan 11th with 90 minutes under his belt than stone cold.
And if he can't play a practice match FA Cup tie without getting crocked, he isn't going to be any use to us at all.

OK, I know I've had a bit of a rant regarding Andre Green.

    Lee Bowyer knows best.
If he wants to 'save' Green for the league match on Jan 11th then fair enough.
But pleeeeeease gaffer, don't tell us that Green isn't up to speed yet, or some other phrase like that. My head might just explode.

Wiredu, Maloney and Stephenson have been recalled from their loans, presumably to play on Sunday. We're so short of numbers he'll have to play some of the seniors he's rather rest. I'd certainly rest Pratley and Gallagher, both of whom are partial to a yellow or two.
Just bought my ticket, not expecting to see a win, just don't fancy waiting a week to watch a non-Roland Charlton team.

Hope you enjoy the first home game rid of the Belgian.

I don't normally do cup games but would have gone to this if I was home.

    Shame on people not going.

By the looks of it tickets aren't selling too well so far.

    I'm not surprised.

It will be interesting to see our averages for the remaining games at The Valley.

The likes of @Clb74 will have already spent a fortune this week doing the aways.

    Sunday’s attendance will be 5,000.

They will increase by at least 0.5 fans per game.

    Why would tickets sell well?

We're going to field a bunch of kids recalled from heaven knows where. We're throwing the game.
Totally understandable, but not worthy of going to see unless you really want to.

And absolutely no shame on anybody not going (pots and kettles come to mind)...

    Nope.

Probably wouldn't have gone even if it was on Saturday.
I grew tired of FA Cup games even a few years before the Belgian took over.
Forking out good money to watch a bunch of squad players lose to a team two leagues below them, in front of 4,000 fans.

This season the way things are, we need FA Cup fixtures like we need soft furnishing on the touchline.
If we were flying high in the top half, then yes, go for it.

But not now. This is a 90inute chance to have a look at a few prodigal loanees. And that's it.
    I'll watch SSN instead.

I did go to an FA Cup away game against Fulham some years back, that was fun.

Somebody had a spare ticket (in the away end of course) and invited me. Fulham were the higher league team then of course, we were the minnows.
4-1 I think it was in the end, but we kept it to 1-0 for a long time and gave them a decent game.

Agreed, I did not bother for similar reasons.

I reckon the Dion Dublin Leicester game was the last cup game I went to.

Cup games for Charlton are like Mr ban Gerwen's posts, pointless.

Because going to The Valley under new ownership is a decent way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
