I reckon I'd be a mangled heap without it. I've had a few injuries and yoga has always helped me stretch through it and keep strong <ok>

Right so what are you lot planning for fitness in the new year ?

I'm swimming then surfing today. Plan to keep my swim membership until the trails dry out a bit and I go do more miles on my bike without schlepping through 10 inches of mud. Then I aim to do 3x each week 15 mile off roaders through the dry months as well as surf every time it's good.

Gonna try and cut down on the wheat and bread too and replace it with corn.

It's that time of year that this thread gets about 20 pages or so in 6-8 weeks.

Before struggling to reach another 4 for the rest of year.

Indeed. A load of middle aged overweight blokes giving it a token effort to lose 3/4 lbs in Jan then sticking their feet up in self congratulation, downing 10 pints and a curry and going back to normal.

    **** all a minute, feel like ****e.

Have managed cup of tea so far, can't face food and definitely couldn't face a beer today.

Hope to be able to veg and watch football and have a sleep, throw this bug off.

Get out for a round of golf tomorrow, hopefully, do Pen y Fan Friday and then next week start with something.

I'd do well to get up the stairs right now though.

Anyway, just back from a surf. It was ****ing lovely today. Banks have shaped up nicely and no wind, meant lovely clean waves. Loads of mates out too and the sun even came out for an hour. Perfect start to the new year <ok>

Off swimming with the little un' in a bit, so it will be more like splashing around and me having to pretend to be a crocodile than swimming, but fun all the same.

Gym closed yesterday but did over 14k steps which is probably 13500 more than last New Year’s Day. Spin class this morning covered 15km. Will go back and do weights later though I fear the gym will be full of ****s sharing a machine between six of them.

Day 7 of detox finishing on the 15th which feels a long way away. No carbs, sugar, booze or caffeine since Boxing Day. Shoot me.

Out of interest what are you eating? I did a month living on "Turkey Chilli" last year. Essentially was 500g of Turkey mince, a tin of chopped tomatoes, 1 large onion and a **** load of chilli powder every day. Wasn't actually that bad and I still eat that probably 2/3 times a week, but with rice usually. I guess the tomato would count as sugar/carb for you though?

Today's exercise will be limited to humping boxes of Christmas decorations up and down stairs, taking down ligh6t and chopping up the tree.

That'll do, thought I was going pass out earlier.

On a plus, any excess weight I put on over Christmas has gone again after two days of a stomach bug.

    Result.

Tomato is allowed on this course I’m doing. Don’t ask me why. Bananas too which I’d have thought would be a no. Loads of chilli to add some taste.

Had a fair bit of red meat. Mince with tomato, onion and mushroom on stir fry veg even I can just about manage. Had roast chicken and greens yesterday. Steak, egg and spinach one night. Pretty basic but now the sugar craving has subsided it’s getting easier. Day one was horrific with the caffeine and sugar comedown after all the food and drink of Xmas and Boxing Day but I’m determined now to at least see where I get to in 21 days.

Yeah that doesn't sound too bad. Think I could manage that quite comfortably tbh. The only time I ever have sugar or caffeine is on a hangover (or whilst getting pissed) so probably easier for me than most as long as I cut out alcohol I would be fine.

In my experience with stuff like this when you are approaching the end you are like "oh that was pretty easy actually", you will see some changes because of it and think "I'll keep it going for another few days and see where I am then".

Then the actual day you finish you end up going out, getting ****ing ruined as you don't have any carbs in you so are ****ed after like 3 pints, order a couple of g's and stay out for about 20 hours. End up hanging for 3/4 days after eating **** and not going to the gym and most of the good work you have done is undone pretty quickly.

I’ve never met anybody who has successfully carb fasted and kept the chub off.

The Atkins diet definitely works, but as you say, keeping the weight off after reintroducing carbs is a challenge.

Any diet works as fundamentally it will be running at a calorie deficeit, the trick is to be able to run at a calorie neutral or deficeit for ever otherwise you will put weight on no matter what you are eating.
