Wolves sit in seventh however were denied any points last time out against Liverpool thanks to VAR. VAR was the main topic of conversation from the weekend’s action with Liverpool yet again being on the right side of a decision to see them overcome Wolves. Indeed, Anthony Taylor originally didn’t give Sadio Mane’s opener, but his decision was eventually overturned before VAR then ruled out Pedro Neto’s equaliser on the stroke of half time as the game finished 1-0. Watford were mightily impressive when beating Aston Villa 3-0, having gone down to 10 men for the final half hour with the score at just 1-0. That means that they’ve gone W2-D1-L1 from their four matches since Nigel Pearson has been in the dugout, losing to league leaders Liverpool, whilst they beat both Man Utd and Villa at home and drew away at Sheffield Utd. Watford will assess some of their injured and ill players ahead of their game with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday in order to field the strongest team they can. Injuries forced both Will Hughes and Craig Cathcart off the field during the 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday and they may miss the New Year's Day clash as a result. Meanwhile Roberto Pereyra and Tom Dele-Bashiru were unavailable at the weekend due to illness. Filling in for head coach Nigel Pearson, who was away due to family matters, assistant coach Craig Shakespeare spoke to the media ahead of the match and said the coaching staff would make a decision on the players' fitness closer to the game. "We'll have a clearer idea tomorrow," he said. "Today was just a second day of recovery from the players, so we'll have a better idea tomorrow but we're hoping that all of them make it. "They'll be assessed again tomorrow, we're going to give them every opportunity of being fit for the Wolves game and as players they'll want that, so we'll give them every opportunity to try and make it." Shakespeare said he was looking forward to things calming down a bit after the busy festive period in order for him and the rest of the coaching staff to be able to prepare more thoroughly for each game. The assistant boss said, although he enjoys the frantic Christmas schedule, he does think the normality will help the Hornets in their quest for Premier League survival. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL AND ENJOY THE GAME
Tough game - they have good pace and strong in midfield. Guess Dawson wlll replace Mariappa and hopefully Hughes will be fit as he has been on good form.
You have to be optimistic about this game.. We are in a roll and scoring goals and defending well. Wolves are tired and grumpy etcetc 2-1?
Out today with friends at Yorkshire Sculpture Park... Will manage a sly look at my phone whilst others are scratching their heads at the occasional odd display COYH!
