    Morning All,

    The days are definitely starting to change now as we move towards the end of September. When I first went out today there was a mist hanging in the valley that eventually goes down to the river. We have had a bumper crop of pears this year and the grapes are now black and need picking before the Hornets get at them. I was reminded of the Keats poem Autumn that starts off:

    Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
    Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
    Conspiring with him how to load and bless
    With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;

    Still though there will be heat in the sun this afternoon and after my reflective start I need to apply some varnish to a window before the rays get round that side of the house. ;)

    I seem to remember seeing coverage of a women's hockey international from Wembley. A sound something like what you'd hear stood a few yards just behind a 747 revving up for take off.
    Or a Beatles live show circa 1964.

    Frenchie, I love your updates about the French countryside and weather. If Mrs GG and self can't get there ourselves at the moment at least I can picture it via your pen pictures.

    I saw the neurologist recently. She told us that the weakness in my legs is due to something in my spinal chord which is a result of the body's response to the lymphoma last year. Yesterday I received the letter with the diagnosis in full: 'paraneoplastic myelopathy'. We looked it up. 'Paraneoplastic' means a manifestation resulting from cancer, and myelopathy means 'damage to the spine' i.e. wot she said.

    That does not sound nice GG. But at least now they know what it is they stand a better chance of fighting it. I hope its nothing too serious major and that with some hard work and lots of help from those around you, you can start on the road to a full recovery.

    Yeah, thanks fellers. In fact I've just got back from the gym- just doing some light upper body work to avoid getting too weedy, and learning how to look after myself avoiding falls etc. Having more trouble getting NHS physio but the occupational therapy people are very helpful with aids round the house etc.
    As my mate put it to me last night, my body has gone on fighting after the war is won- the problem is that produced antibodies in order to attack the proteins in the cancer, but they are now duffing up the proteins in my spinal chord. Or something.
    No knowing as yet whether it'll get better on its own, or get worse. They're doing a study on this at Harvard and having trouble getting into double figures with cases for data. So I'm pretty special!
