I rather suspect the younger ones have grown up with this so they have been brainwashed into being used to it.#
They probably are not interested in the Queen's speech or the honours list.

I don't like how they tell you what has gone before at the start - I know I watched it and I am not yet senile!

Oh that makes me mad too. It often happens in documentaries especially in the low brow channels with adverts when they tell you what is coming up next (it isn't, it's often at the end of the programme, cos they think you will keep watching) and when the adverts are done, they tell you what you have just seen.:headbang:

    Yes crazy and so patronising...
Something very superficial about how the media is going.
Just like on the news programmes where after an incident they interview any jo blow on the street about what happened.
What drives Mme mad is that on the news the news reader gives information and then we go live to a talking head somewhere standing on front of a door or similar who then says virtually the same thing.. Infuriating.. And fuelled 24 hour news

Morning all. A bright start after overnight frost again. I remember saying in the summer drought that we had, with temperatures around 40°C how I had seen and smelt what I thought was a bonfire down the other end of the village, which turned out to be fire in the countryside almost 10 miles away. News from Australia where people that we know on the outskirts of Sydney have the fires within 10 minutes walk from their home. They left the UK for a better life down under, but are now living in fear that everything they have built up in their new lives could be wiped out in minutes. As I look around my home here I wonder just how I could start again. The floods that take place in parts of England do at least give you a chance to save your treasured items, whereas a fire doesn't. I would happily send them some of my excess rain if that was possible.
Have a good time today everyone. <ok>

This is truly devastating for those impacted upon and I hope they get all the support necessary to put their lives back together again. I really hope some of these fires were not started deliberately, anyone doing that should be spit roasted. I also hope the environment bounces back and endangered wildlife has not been affected too much.
I do wonder why they make houses of wood in Australia and in the USA, seems daft to me.
On a lighter note I was chatting our our postmaster yesterday about this and we concluded that Australia is now responsible for global warming!

Morning all. Woke up at 4.30am and thought it must be time to get up and make a cuppa as it was light outside, only to realise that the street light was on. Went back to sleep straight away. Those of you who have walked the length of the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, to give it the proper name, will know that it is almost two kilometers long, and last night it was packed solid with people out to see the spectacular laser and fireworks display. The l'Arc de Triomphe is used as a backdrop to project moving images onto, and for half an hour before midnight I was amazed at just how they can produce 3D effects that come over on a TV screen. The fireworks were as good as any seen around the world, so it is not surprising that Paris had nearly 35 million tourists during the year, and around a million were out to watch the display last night. As the crowds dispersed to the bars and cafés you could see that the capital is as multicultural as London which brings its tensions, but a spirit of goodwill to all was evident. Long may it continue!

    Happy New Year All!

Last night whilst watching Jool's Hootenanny (well what else is there to watch on NYE) I realised that this programme represents another incredible example of giving out news before it happens!

The programme is recorded several months before Hogmanay and Jools and every minor celeb on the programme tells us that there will be a new year coming! What a spoiler! A bit premature anyway, what if there were an extinction event!? Jools and his chums would look a bit stupid.

    I think I had better stop...<badger>

Morning all. Cloudy and damp outside and not very inviting. Off to see the son-in-law who is having his birthday today. He has been trying to help his mother in Wales who has a partner who is on his last legs, and needs 24 hour care. Unfortunately the local hospice can only take him in for one week a month, and the hospital is bursting at the seams. For my son-in-law it is difficult to live in France, work in Switzerland, and travel to Wales that often, so he is talking a lot on the phone. He is half expecting to have the call to go back again to Wales, but I hope he can enjoy the day here with his family.
After yesterday and the red card incident, there have been many different views expressed in the media and social networks. It seems that there is a problem to fix, but just how long will it take to amend the way it is working? I hope that it is not left to the end of the season.
Enjoy your day whatever you have planned. <ok>
