That photo of Corbyn and Johnson together is a real classic. Johnson with his triumphant smirk and Corbyn with his nose in the air, knowing that he "won the argument". It's an iconic photo which will last for years.
BORIS - SORT IT OUT # 1 Sad to see the state of things this week, travelling across London for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. I don't drive through the West End anymore, because of the 20mph zones and the tramps everywhere. Now pretty much every set of lights on the A406 has its resident beggars, and I was depressed to see that there was even one in the entrance hallway to the big Sainsbury's down on Woolwich Road. Not the Big Issue seller, who has been there for 20+ years and is a good bloke, always cheerful. He took the day off on the 26th I think. Just some sad guy asking passing shoppers for spare change. For pity's sake Boris, DO SOMETHING about this will you! It's becoming a blight on urban and suburban areas everywhere.
Interesting little piece on 5live about the Palace of Varieties. John Bercow's "Order" was quite sedate when he took the job on, and the louder he shouted the more disorderly the House became, maybe chicken-and-egg. They also played a recording of the House at PMQ's and compared it to the Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiillwall roar, and the two were indistinguishable.
BORIS - SORT IT OUT # 2 The Cabinet office Publishing the addresses of honours recipients - over 1,000 of them including security service personnel and police officers - on the internet for a whole HOUR. Crass incompetence - whoever screwed up needs sacking. This isn't a computer game - lives have been put at risk. (PS: Hope it wasn't our Sheriff)
Greta Thunberg is guest editor of the Today programme today. Shame on the BBC for promoting the exploitation of a vulnerable teenager with issues. Before reaching for the off button I heard an interview with her weirdo of a father, who tried to explain why he had allowed his daughter to be used like this from the age of 12. Nauseating.
There were interesting interviews with Mark Carney and Sir David Attenborough. The entire programme was strong on well tested scientific facts, unlike the previous edition, which was edited by a right wing climate change denier. It was a nightmare for the interviewer, who had to listen to a continuous stream of half truths and contentious opinions stated as facts.
"Progressive Patriotism" is the new buzz-word, according to R L-B, who is being lined up by Len McCluskey and Corbyn's Cronies as the next Labour Leader. Just what we need, another silly gimmick.
I hope the membership are not that daft. They may have joined because of Corbyn, but surely they realise all their hard work has been for nothing. They must realise the next election could be even worse if they get it badly wrong....again. Dan Jarvis would get my vote if he stands. I expect Jezza to throw his weight behind R L-B. THat's why he's staying on, he doesn't want a fair and open contest. I was arguing with my brother over this; he doesn't think the current membership are sheepish enough to do whatever Corbyn McCluskey &co tell them, while I don't have his confidence. Labour are about to have an IDS moment, ie replacing an unelectable leader with an even more unelectable one.
Maybe we can all go on holiday in a carbon fibre sailing boat in future. Unlike Emma Thompson I don't go jetting around the world, so I'd be happy to see all air travel banned tomorrow. And I like her notion that she should be allowed to fly wherever she wants because she's planted some trees. That reasoning alone reveals her to be very stupid as well as hopelessly vain.
Carlos Ghosn Saviour of Renault, saviour of Nissan - has done a runner to Lebanon Well done Carlos Made saps of the Japs.
Now I hear Veganism is officially a religion. Which means the check-out person at Lidl can refuse to touch your pork loin, and there's nothing you can do about it. However, if you blaze your ethical veganism all over your social media pages as a teenager, good luck getting a job
Well, I was being a bit naughty. A Judge has ruled that 'ethical veganism' which is apparently living your entire life avoiding harming any animals at all, now has the same protection from prejudice as a religion. So an employee who is an ethical vegan can (for instance) refuse to handle meat products for some customers, and their employer cannot discipline them for it. In reality, I imagine most employers now study the social media profiles of candidates for jobs, and ethical vegans will now find it as difficult to get a decent job in the first place as many minority stand-out groups do. Not fair perhaps, but just the way things work. People can't have it all in life. If your principles and/or beliefs mean you cannot personally treat all others equally, you must expect to experience inequality too.
The entire Iraq War was was the consequence of an earlier mistake - not removing Saddam at the end of the Gulf War.
Good news for the UK tax payer - Meghan and Harry are quitting the Royal Family. Can't say I blame them. I doubt if poor Harry has ever got over the way his mother died, and just wants to be left alone. Meghan isn't daft. She knew when she was on to a good thing, and now she can have the best of both worlds. In life, all of us are eventually faced with the choice of putting our duty first, or our personal happiness. In his choice, ex-Prince Harry has shown he is genuinely his Father's Son. PS: This story is obviously far more important than the latest Iran Crisis, so it will receive wall-to-wall coverage now for at least a week, especially on the BBC, while Trump's 'dealings' with the Ayatollahs will get a ten second footnote if it's lucky.
