I thought Boufal was easily our most creative player today, before Djeneppo came on. Both he and Djeneppo fall over a lot, but Boufal does it more convincingly.
I really don’t remember a decent chance that Boufal created. Djenepo created 5 or 6 in less than 30minutes.
I agree. Great bit of play in front of me (Kingsland/Chapel). Held it up and pulled back nice ball to peh on edge of the box. He will come good and play a part in our season in my opinion.
He was ineffective at best. Did you watch the whole game! Susan & I agree anyway, which is whats counts (it’s his thread)!
Djeneppo didn’t create 5 or 6 chances, did he? He had a shot tipped over, and that would have been a wonder goal. Boufal was trying to take people on whenever he got the ball.
Yes, I watched the whole game, from The Chapel. Djeneppo was given loads of space, and used it well. Boufal wasn’t given any, but still took players on though.
What fans have to realise is that Boufal is in the team to take on the oppo defenders and make them commit tackles. most times he will lose possession but it is those few times that he gets fouled in dangerous areas or sets up chances that he is there for. I'll say that he has had better days than today but he was rusty as well.
Saints didn’t let their heads drop, fair play to them. Then they really stretched and worried Palace. A little more luck and Saints would have had all three points. I agree saints looked a little tired at times but as the game went on it seemed Saints fitness began to show. Well done Saints!!
Problem with Boufal is he unlocks the defence, but then rather than passing through the open door, he tries to unlock another one. He just needs to learn when and where to use his skill, and more importantly, when and where not to.
Maybe Boufal wasn’t given any space because he waits too long, doesn’t use it (space) well & gets closed down? Just saying?? We’ve all got different opinions & for me he was one of only a few players today that didn't really reach the high standards of the others.
I was a bit harsh on Djenepo who is actually rather good so today I’m going to be quite harsh on Boufal Hope it works out the same.
Sure, but it's more than just that. He is in the team to create goal-scoring opportunities. You can do that by making passes, crossing, dribbling past players etc. Winning free kicks is not the only way. Incidentally, it was Djenepo who won our most dangerously-positioned free-kick. Almost every time Djenepo received the ball he (successfully) took on players, made good passes, got the ball into the box, and generally just ran the Palace defenders ragged. For the first hour, we didn't really have a real opportunity on goal. The Palace defence looked very comfortable. You have to blame the designated play-maker for that. I have no agenda against Boufal today; I was even glad he was on the teamsheet. But it was a bad performance and in total contrast to Djenepo's contribution.
