I think what's most telling is that nobody is expecting Oliver Skipp to start

He should. Wanyama's a crock and he's hopefully leaving, while Dier looks miles from fitness and can't handle two games in quick succession.
Skipp always looks bright whenever he gets a chance, then disappears into the ether for a month or two.

Oh look, a team of the decade put together by someone who actually watched us for the entire decade...

    That is some starting XI.
I would swap Toby with Jan in that CB combo, but nothing more.

Are they just picking on how good they were or how much they did for us in that time?
Modric, Bale and King were all superb, but they didn't play many games for us this decade alone.

King played 30 games for us this decade. Vertonghen just played his 300th.
He might even overtake Ledley in overall appearances this season, as he's only 21 behind.
The man's a legend for us and he'd walk into last decade's side, but I wouldn't pick him for this one, I'm afraid.
I'd also replace Defoe with Eriksen for similar reasons. I think he's even scored more goals in the time period in question.

Our first starting xi of the decade (vs Peterborough, 2nd January 2010)
Gomes; Hutton, Dawson, Bassong, Bale; Huddlestone, Palacios, Modric, Kranjcar; Keane, Defoe

Our last starting xi of the decade (vs Norwich, 28th December 2019)
Gazzaniga; Foyth, Alderweireld, Vertonghen; Aurier, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Sessegnon; Alli, Eriksen; Kane

In some ways it's fitting that we began and ended the decade trying to work out what the hell position everyone was playing in...

Some great players, but like most of these kind of selections it's far too attacking.
Poor Dembele would be knackered at the end of a game. Who else would be competing in midfield?

Probably a GK. I'm going with Brad Friedel or Mark Schwartzer but I think both were born in 1970. In which case I'll play it safe and say Paul Stewart, which on this board is the correct answer to all questions.

We'd be in fourth if it wasn't for the efforts of Michael Oliver for the past year...
