Just what the doctor ordered !!! Great display by the Lads. Frank got tactics spot on. Willian was immense. Back 3 worked a treat. Not much more to be said really. The turkey and wine will taste that bit sweeter now .
Very happy with that display, who wouldn't be?? The back 3 were brilliant all game, Midfield was single minded and stayed tough, wing backs did a good job, Willian was exceptional, Mount heaps better than recent outings, and Tammy did OK but was pretty well contained by Spuds defence. Kepa could have sat down and read the papers rare were Spuds attacks on goal. Frank got his stuff spot on, and the team responded. Merry Xmas to all.
Tammy well contained? He ran rings round them! Best performance of the season anyway, surely? Willian and Mount probably just about stood out but everyone was at least 7/10 probably even an 8. The thread on the Spurs board is a good read, even got one guy on there saying the penalty could’ve gone either way....I can’t believe how a fully qualified referee can give a free kick against Alonso in the first place?! Thank god for VAR! Was amusing in general watching them lose their heads, a bit embarrassing for them, played right into our hands. Just hope we don’t ruin such a good performance by messing it up against Southampton, need to start to learning to win these sort of games.
The ref only had 2 key moments in the game and got them both totally wrong. He gave Spurs a free for their goalie poleaxing Alonso, then gave Son a free for a non existent tackle by Rudi. Bit embarrassing for him when VAR overturned him both times. As for Tammy, I thought he was below his best. He missed a couple of half chances, hardly had a shot on target, and gave the ball away a bit as well.Might be just me, but he looks a bit gun shy, and instead of firing straight away, is hesitating long enough to get caught. Have thought so last couple of games, and put it down to midfield being less direct feeding him in order to stiffen defence.I agree his general play is smarter but wish he'd let fly quicker.
Sweetest result of the season so far for me.Good performances throughout. No CL involvement for me makes a huge difference to a young manager still learning."Judas" Jose put to bed.
Tammy was brilliant again. His work rate and runs were incredible, making space for Mount and Willy. Physically he bullied Alderweireld. What a performance. Didier would have been proud. Still only 22, already 11 goals before Xmas. If he gets 15 in his first season at Chelsea, it will be a fantastic success
One goal in his last 5 games suggests Tammy is not quite as brilliant as he can be or has been earlier . His play off the ball is definitely better and looking very impressive, but the goals have dried up for some reason. It happens, but hope he gets back on the scoresheet soon.
He scored against Lille and Villa in his last five games, so that is two. And looking at his game purely from a goalscoring point of view is superficial. Far better that he is part of a fantastic team performance. His work rate and running off the ball went to a new level against Spurs. And Mount and Willian were prime beneficiaries. Cast your mind back to how many goals Drogs scored in season 1 and 2 in the Prem
Actually the ref didn't spot Rudiger's foul on Son at all and gave a throw-in. I was close by and thought that Rudiger was going to get the red card for a deliberate forearm smash to Son's side....but Son got punished for minor retaliation instead. All the Spurs fans near me were rightly incensed with Rudiger. If there was racist abuse it is still unacceptable though.
It's many years since he has over-achieved with a group of players. We still can't afford the very best players so I doubt he will do particularly well.
Villa was the one PL game I was referencing. Also not trying to put the kid down, simply saying that he is not scoring as he can. I have already said why I think that is, slower service from the midfielders. We do agree his general play has improved out of sight. This team performance was as much to do about how we were set up, it hit the spot and everyone played far better individually and as a team, and TA was a big part of that. I don't think "superficial" is the right word though, maybe "harsh". Not only Drogba struggled 1st year or so at Chelsea, so did Lampard and Joe Cole, and they did OK, as will TA .
