Penalty at 02.42...literally all 22 players are inside the box when he kicks the ball. Infringement? Nah <laugh>

He can play the killer ball and dribble and SCORE he played anywhere in midfield and up front and looked very confident. Don't recall him taking corners but cant be as bad as eriksen. Well worth a punt mate

  8. This is clear proof that Poch had become a divisive figure at the club.

I think that we have to sign him. With the money we now need to spend on full backs and a defensive midfielder, there's not going to be a great deal left for centre halves.

Jose Mourinho isn't going to be here in 5 years time and the next 2 years are where we need to concentrate right now. Jan can give us 2 years of service, maybe playing a few less games as we blood a successor.

Hopefully, we can get Luis Campos in and he can start to recruit the next generation of centre halves. What we don't want to be doing is wasting the next 2 years of Mourinho, Harry Kane, Sonny, Dele, etc. through having a sub-standard defence. That's what Arsenal have done in wasting Aubameyang and it's ****ing dumb.

It also helps that Toby saved us £10.4m in wages in the past two years by not signing a contract worth £150k p/w in 2017...but deciding to sign one in 2019

Jan for me is still so important to this club, both as a player and leader so I really do hope so. He also deserves a new deal, more than Toby for me.

I can’t help but feel Toby’s now committed because he knows there’s a slim/ no chance of getting a better deal elsewhere now after years of flirting m but I'll put that behind me and hope he can rediscover his old form.

As for Campos, it looks like Jose does really want him so it could be on the cards. As does a potential move for Soumare (if Lille don’t already hate us for Sacramento and Santos, they sure as will do if we get Campos and Soumare). If tying Toby down (AND JAN!!!) is a way of conserving funds for other defensive areas in the squad it’s extremely smart from Levy/ Jose. Many of us have already said the likelihood of signing a CB (or two), two FBs and a DM in one window is slim so if this new deal buys us more time for the roles I’m fully on board with it.

Great news about Toby! This does indicate some players didn't want to stay with Poch in place.

It spares the urgent need to sign 2 CBs in the space of 2 windows and instead allows us to bring them in over the next 3 or 4. Either way, we need two of them. As Brian has said, the most pressing issues at the minute are at FB and CM. I think even if Dier rediscovers his form we still urgently need an upgrade on Winks. And the situation at FB is currently tragic. KWP needs to move on, Davies has become really injury prone, Aurier needs to be a stand-in for a better player and Rose needs to be donated to a local charity. I'd say our priorities over the next 2 windows are:

    LB
    RB
    CM
    CB
    ST

5 players in 2 windows is tricky, but not impossible.

Toby signing a new contract represents the first tangible move of the Mourinho era at Spurs. There are very few managers in the world of football who could produce this effect on the players when following such a successful period from Pochettino. Toby signing is the first step for the new manager on a road to the summer of 2020 when we can expect significant additions to the squad as Mourinho reshapes Spurs in his own image.
Will we like that image? I have no idea but this is certainly one of the most interesting periods in Spurs history. The shadow cast by our new stadium could well reach right across London and beyond.

While we've tied down Toby for a good few years, that doesn't mean we should slack off looking at the defence. Case in point, Upamecano has eighteen months left on his contract and we need to act fast before Bayern do their usual job and just let his contract expire and poach him for nothing
