I guess they are a national treasure to you guys but to these ears it's just a grating racket.
Talking of grating, surprised Pogues FoNY isn't in the list. Most people seem to love it, I can't stand it.

Just re-learned (isn't 6 Music great), the alleged best song of the 1980s never got to Number 1 in the charts as it was beaten to it by Joe Dolce's Shaddap You Face.

Not to mention the lack of Modern Romance classics.

    Terrible results.

Are you saying that the list does not match my own personal choice of 100 best songs of the 1980s? I'm glad you pointed that out.

    Pish!

There are 10 songs on that list that were made by Scottish artists including the number1 and the 2nd biggest selling single ever made.

I had The Waterboys down as Irish, you are more than welcome to claim them.

Eurythmics, Bronski Beat, Communards all based in England with English and Scottish members.
Let's put it this way: two members of U2 were born in England, no one claims they are an English band.

    Revised Chart per country:

    England 57
    USA 27
    Scotland 5
    Ireland 3
    Sweden 2
    Australia 1
    British Isles 1
    Germany 1
    Italy 1
    New Zealand 1
    Wales 1

On the subject of Band Aid, if Midge Ure wrote a song for Beyonce, would that make her Scottish?
