Wholeheartedly agree. I get absolutely bombarded with gambling adverts. If I had a addiction to it, I reckon it would send me over the edge. I really feel sorry for people who have issues, it must feel like there's no help at all. If you watch day time tele sometimes, take note of the advert order. First one, pay day loans, then some online bingo or casino site. Then discount booze from Tesco. Seriously, does anyone govern this crap, or is it all take take take.......
To be fair all these gambling sites do warn against excessive gambling. Admittedly they're legally required to do that. I know bet365 encourage people to set limits on how much they gamble in a month. At the end of the day we live in a free country. I only ever place bets on sports events online. Online poker or whatever is a recipe for disaster. That is where most gambling problems stem from so I don't have an issue with adverts regarding sports events from betting companies.
Just had my Truespeed FTTP installed, only took the guys an hour. Getting about 280 MBS download, and 400 upload, with a ping of 2ms. For those of you who are used to speeds like that, I can’t tell you what a difference it makes!
If Alcohol had been discovered in the last 15 years , it may well have been banned . Or at least restricted in some way I think .
Alcohol is a far bigger issue than the gambling in terms of advertising imo, I just don't like the relentlessness of the gambling adverts. I just don't think we should be encouraging people to participate in taking a harmful substance, that's why smoking adverts are banned aren't they? And alcohol is a poison at the end of the day. We've got a weird relationship with alcohol in this country, and it's almost ingrained in us from young that you will drink alcohol as an adult. Due to that weird relationship and the fact it's normalised and seen as socially acceptable, it encourages its use imo. If we were to legalise drugs that are currently controlled substances then I wouldn't suddenly expect to see adverts for different brands of ecstasy tablets on the TV, why should it be different for alcohol?
On the topic of alcohol, I read a suggestion, last week, that whisky may have been invented in England and not in Scotland. The reason given was that the first time whisky was mentioned in print, was in The Canterbury Tales, which was printed more than 100 years before whisky and Scotland were written about in the same article/tale. I haven’t a scooby doo, if it is a valid argument, just thought I would mention it.
Wow that is fast. I am on Virgin and get 360 down but only 40 up. My ping is about 10ms which I thought was impressive until I saw yours!
Well I can beat all of that. My download is around 1/2 a bottle, my upload is struggling to be an upload and my ping just broke. Lightweights.
Not so interesting fact. A ping is so called as it uses a protocol called 'Packet InterNet Grouper' (PING) to send out a signal to another machine to test latency of the network. The reply is called a PONG, which has nothing at all to do with any acronym. And, Chilc's response of 2ms is astounding for a WAN (aka internet) link - some internal networks (LANs) are at about that speed.
My daughter was Miss Southampton 2007 and Miss Dorset 2008. Came 5th in Miss England in 2008. Full of not so interesting facts tonight EDIT: She won Miss Southampton at St Mary's EDIT 2 : https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/13...t-did-the-judges-get-it-right-have-your-vote/
Just heard some really sad news. My neighbour who was 91 died on Monday night. His wife just knocked to tell me. They have known each other since he was 6 years old (she is 90) and got married when they turned 18. I have lived opposite them for 24 years, Mrs No7 for 30. So sad. He was a huge Brighton fan and footie fan in general. When we got promoted back to the Premier League, he was waiting for me to come home and ran (yes even at his age!) out and we hugged in the street. Lovely guy.
