Which is what the article says the Tories will do. That lie has to be exposed.

Are you sure he’s reneged on that? I haven’t seen anything definite mentioned anywhere. I know a few on here are sure he doesn’t mean that. Also there has been suggestions that Johnson means something else.

Boris Johnson repeatedly stated that "the Tories are building 40 new hospitals".

    It's bollocks.

The Tories have allocated money to refurbish parts of 6 hospitals that desperately need renovating.

The Tories say they have set aside money for seed funding feasibility studies and initial planning on a further 34 hospitals.

There are no guarantees these '34 hospitals' will ever be built.

There was no costing for the 40 new hospitals in the manifesto, only the money for refurbishing 6 old ones. That tends to suggest it was never meant to be a serious pledge, but many will have believed it.

Having got back to reading this thread again after forcing myself to stop reading anything about the election due to my massive disgust at the idiocy of so many voters, it’s clear that, whilst this government has a “majority” (only because of the ridiculous way we still persist with in our elections), there is a massive groundswell of voters who, like me, think Brexit is a total clusterfuck of unparalleled magnitude and, whilst has already caused chaos to the economy, is going to do huge damage over the next god knows how many years. I’m (theoretically) am relatively protected as I’m retired, own my own house and can afford to live reasonably well on my pension. However, like so many on here, I’m seriously concerned about those who are working, how their jobs will be affected, what will happen to my children when there are even more austerity cuts and what I will do in the future if the NHS continues its downward spiral due to lack of proper investment (and proper management). I don’t want to grow old and infirm in an increasingly racist and homophobic country. Where did our “British reasonableness and sense of fair play” go? We’ve been fooled into the biggest mistake ever by a bunch of right wing billionaires who are happy to make more money off everyone else’s misfortune. And we’ve walked right into it.
I will fight as hard as I can to remain “European” and not British, English or whatever you want to call it.
I’m still looking hard at where I may be able to move to (and I’m taking advice on it). I don’t want to leave my children and granddaughter, but I may have to, because I won’t be able to keep my mouth shut if even half of what I fear comes to pass.
I’m going to be out of the country between beginning March and end May. I wonder what I shall return to?

One right now that makes me laugh is that the reason Johnson said he called the election because parliament refused to fast track his deal... instead forcing him to go through the delay of the normal parliamentary processes.

Now he's has won the election he's going through the normal process anyway <laugh>.

He's also making a bill to ensure we cant extend the deadline for the transitional period, even though as we discussed on here at the time, his previous brexit bill added a clause that said his government (and only his government) could extend it <laugh>. Directly correcting his own bill as propaganda!!

Thats just in the first couple of days.

And don't forget at the very start of this brexit campaign .....Boris painted on the side of a bus "£350m to be used for the NHS every week" not go to the EU if we win the vote..........you can guess the rest.

It all looks more and more like a no deal crash next December, as planned, and hence the electoral deal with Farage.

Can you think of any politician who promises to make the country worse?

Of course they lied and said they'd make the country better. Of course people did not trust the losing party. The same can be said of any election.

But why would people believe the specific lies told by Brexiters? Why would they not trust Labour? What exactly was it with Johnson that resonated with the people so strongly they voted for this idiot?

More than half your country has gone mental, apparently. And half of mine. All over the world, people losing their marbles in very similar ways, electing very similar politicians on similar platforms.

As long as you treat it as just a weird coincidence, we will continue to lose.

I agree with you in many ways but I just don't agree that this was down to racial issues. For some it may have been, but for the majority I don't believe that is the case. I also don't treat it as a weird coincidence that there is a sizeable right wing shift in many parts of the world so on that we also agree.

People have been brainwashed into believing that our government will make a better job of governing this country if we leave the EU. They believe we will be better off financially and we can have more control over our lives. If the EU are constantly painted as the bad guys people will turn against them. The same happened with Corbyn.

That shows a lack of political awareness and a lack of social education. It also shows how much social media and other digital technology is being used to mask the truth, spread lies and reinforce a skewed belief system. Stupid people believe stupid things and there are a **** load of stupid and politically uneducated people in this country, just like there are in the USA.

Look at Finland and how they have achieved a real balance, and what the outcome has been:

    https://www.theguardian.com/comment...-power-rewilding-party-trust-power-government

Sanna Marin would not have stood a chance of being elected in the UK or USA, but because of the changes in Finland, she has been.

Finland has a bright future, and we get Boris.
