Key area is crying out for Bristol City investment in January: Comment Bristol City have come off the back of two consecutive home defeats, and they will be hoping that they are able to turn their form around before the January transfer market opens. While the Robins are attempting to improve with the players that are currently at their disposal, manager Lee Johnson will be assessing potential transfer targets for next month and deciding which key roles within the team he has to strengthen. One role that Johnson may feel he needs to add to is a creative central midfielder, something which the Robins have been screaming out for across the season. With Josh Brownhill being the most creative player that the Robins have on their books in that central midfield department, Johnson will recognise that a fresh target could be needed to freshen things up within the squad. Too often this season, especially of late, Bristol City have found their possession-based style of play to be too passive and too easy for the opposition sides to read and intercept passes within the centre of the park. department, Johnson will recognise that a fresh target could be needed to freshen things up within the squad. With City changing their system lately and going from a 3-5-2 to a 4-4-2, with Brownhill serving out wide, their creative supply through the middle of the park. Han-Noah Massengo and Adam Nagy aren’t the type of players that will be able to create consistent opportunities for the strikers ahead of them, the Frenchman Massengo’s final decision making needing some improvement after his move from Monaco in the summer, while Nagy has preferred to operate just in front of the defence and dictate the play as well as break things up. And with the Premier League interest in Brownhill increasing, with Sheffield United keen on the former Barnsley man, Bristol City can’t be taking any chances if they was to lose the midfielder next month. Kasey Palmer is better in a No.10 role where he can play in between the lines and thread passes through for the strikers, but the Robins are missing that deep lying playmaker, who can make things happen from halfway and see passes that others may not. Johnson knows that more creativity in the central midfield is required if the Robins are going to keep up their push for the play-offs, and he will be determined to find the right player that can be a threat for the Championship side. The City gaffer will surely have a player or two in mind that can come in and do the role that he wants them to, but he will be biding his time to make sure that the right one arrives at Ashton Gate. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/k...r-bristol-city-investment-in-january-comment/
almost a year ago Korey was our knight in shiny armour ….. and playing 3-5-2 in the championship was SC's downfall unless you have at least 2 players in the 5 that can drop back to enforce the 3 into a four as counters are launched! we do not what we did have though was a full back that in a 4 could take on the " 5 " in a 3-5-2 from time to time …... hes out injured …..
Our midfield are physically pretty weak. To get the best out of our current crop you need a 'Marvin Elliot' /'Gerry Gow' type in there with them. You have to win it before you can play with it. Unless of course you're a Xavi and Iniesta and we don't have them. After 4 years I'm surprised Junior, of all people, has yet to understand or appreciate this.
Bristol City's turgid home form in focus: these facts and figures help illuminate the truth Our City writer looks at the last year at Ashton Gate and asks how big the problem is currently. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-citys-turgid-home-form-3650583
It appears to me that every season at this time we cry out for at least one or two players to boost our play-off hopes and yet we are still to reach that stated goal. Over the last 4 or 5 years we the supporters know what we need but still management looks the other way or don't want to dangle their feet in murky expensive waters to pull out a dud. It would be nice if we were to step outside the box and have all our ducks in a row before the season starts but then again that's something that would be in another world for Bristol City and I don't expect it to happen anytime soon. Remind me again how many transfer windows it would take to get it right in the supporter's eyes?
Every other club in the championship is trying to do the same, many with much higher budgets than us , we have to be realistic, our improvement over recent years has been pretty impressive, but that’s the easy part , breaking into the next level and achieving promotion will be even tougher.
