That’s why they lost. I have a snowflake on Facebook offering comfort to friends kids that will find this distressing!
Here's a thing. Brexit: I know how I voted, and still stand by my decision. I was working in a specific area at the time and I have now changed jobs - so still working under the same title, but in a completely different field, it does make me wonder how Brexit will affect my new company. They are world wide company whereas previously it was just UK based. Interesting times ahead
So good to see Mad Anna and the other turncoats like Grieve kicked out. Never want to hear from them again. Or Chuckup. Or that infantile Laura Poppycock who was meant to be the next Labour leader and refused to engage with Tories in the H of C. Labour can do a lot better than that. No doubt all the Labour supporters on our board will be hurting right now, but there is a really interesting debate going forward as to how it can turn itself into an electable progressive party. Their fight back must start now. Meantime, Boris and Co have a hell of a job on their hands, but have the necessary instruments of power to do it. No doubt the big arguments in Parliament now will be between the Tories and a strengthened SNP. And Ian Blackford will continue to bore the bollocks off us
Blackford will be a thorn in Boris' side, keeping him on his toes. He goes on somewhat, but now with last nights result, him and wee Krankie will fight hard for IndyRef2 - it's up to BawJaws now to placate the people of Scotland to keep them in the Union - if May could find all that extra dosh for the DUP, then maybe he can find some for us up here?
I suspect that, within 10 years, there will be an independent Scotland, Wales and England. Plus a united Ireland. Seems the way things are heading. I like the Union, but I'm not fundamentally against any of the above.
So, many of the traditional Labour voters of the north of England were deluded into thinking that the EU was the cause of their woes, and punished Labour for telling them the truth. As a result they turned to the very party responsible for their austerity for the last 9 years. Unfortunately our General Election wasn't very general - the Tories managed to turn it into a Brexit only election, helped by the media, where fake news was the order of the day and such questions as possible election bribery and prevention of the publication of reports were 'one day news' and nothing else. Labour's attempts to turn this fiasco into a general election - involving a wider range of election themes fell on deaf ears. The Labour voters of the north ended up voting for bankers and speculators, against nurses, the homeless and those going to food banks - and democracy lost. Democracy lost again because, once more, a party will be able to lord it with a majority which 57% of the electorate voted against.
Boris won't grant Indyref 2 until Brexit is bedded in, if at all. Personally, I think it should happen sometime in the next 5 years. People down here would say that the Scots have done well financially with the Barnet formula. Of course, if there's evidence that Brexit affects Scotland adversely, as wee Krankie says it will, this should be addressed. I groan every time Blackford comes on the media, but of course, his interest is Scotland only, and represents them well. He has no interest in the rest of the UK.
Classic!! So all these respected Labour members who are saying that Corbyn was the main problem are all part of the right wing press conspiracy are they? Areas that were Labour for over 50 years have been lost to the Tories, all because they didn't like the Marxist agenda being pushed by the Labour Party. Hundreds of Labour members are saying this, with millions voting with their feet and yet Momentum supporters like yourself continue to bury your heads in the sand.
Aha...the 'Marxist agenda'. Parroted by people who have little idea who Marx was, or what his agenda was - and labelled at a leader who, by his own admission, never got past page one of reading Marx. But the Mail says it's so ! In actual fact the agenda of the Labour Party would be fully recognisable from the perspective of most other western European democracies because the levels of nationalization contained within it go no further than what would be found in Germany or Sweden or a number of other countries.
Yes, it's amazing just how roundly these policy proposals have been rejected. All those Daily Mail readers in the North eh?
The Scottish electorate have been lied to over and over by Westminster and the result could be the straw that snaps the camels back. It will very much depend on how negotiations go with the EU as to whether they decide that enough is enough and take the plunge for Independance - I'm not for it, but I see the rise in disdain towards Westminster as an inevitable catalyst for the SNP to realise their dreams. I think, irrespective of any result in an IndyRef, Blackford would still stand up for the people of Scotland. I'm no big fan of him, but I admire his tenacity - he's constantly shouted down by the Tory backbenchers but he still keeps going. The SNP have a whole other set of problems brewing in the New Year with Mr "Gropey-Hands" Salmond and his trial, which I expect the Tory media machine to make the most of......
Seismic result in Northern Ireland where Nationalist parties (9 MP's - up from 7 in the previous election) have more MP's than Unionist parties for the first time ever. The DUP got a kicking (down from 10 MP's to 8) for ignoring the will of the people when it came to Brexit. Thanks to Brexit, Nationlism has risen in both Scotland and Northern Ireland. A United Ireland is a lot closer this morning.
More rubbish. There have been a number of activists on radio this morning all saying the same thing, Labour lost in their heartlands because they treated 'their' voters with contempt. One said his local party selected their preferred candidate but the PLP rejected him and imposed their own Momentum approved candidate who wasn't from that area, didn't know the region and had views very different from local members. The result is many locals refused to canvass and those that did soon found out they were done for with Corbyn being cited the problem. Labour always used to have a great array of local MPs who were familiar with their areas, now it seems Momentum have their own agenda and anyone with a free mind will not be tolerated. They have totally alienated their core vote and got what they deserved. All the Luvvies bleating on twitter are what Labour aspires to these days, they really have become detached from reality...
Thank heavens the voting public saw Corbyn for what he is. His deserved legacy is that even after years of correcting Labour’s profligate financial mismanagement (austerity) the voting public still categorically rejected his fantasy manifesto, leaving him with a well deserved historically cataclysmic failure of a campaign. A result that restores faith in the electorate. Politically, Corbyn will be remembered as nothing more than a scar left by a particularly pernicious boil on the arsehole of the Labour Party. Good riddance.
