Actually not so, their result was as bad as bad can be. They were coming off very poor previous results with chances to win back seats they’ve held often in the past. Total abject failure. Even failed to win Winchester near me.
Also I won’t get started on Corbyn, but Swinson goes down as an exceptionally hopeless politician, completely out of her depth. There was no need to give Johnson this election, it’s given him the chance to say he has a mandate for Brexit (with 43% of the vote). She was the first turkey to go for it (apart from SNP who don’t count) and this pushed Corbyn. I suspect she thought as she was on over 20% in the polls at the time and the only clear Remain party she could cash in. ****ing idiot. At least she lost her seat.
Before I start channelling my inner Tory bellend, my last serious observations:
- Tories + Brexit Party got 45% of the vote, a few Labour votes will have been from Leavers but there’s no evidence Leave would have won a second referendum. That means this election is not going to unite the country (and even less so when you see the case for a Scottish referendum is now very strong, and for a United Ireland).
- Johnson is completely amoral, with a large majority he can do what he wants, don’t be surprised if he does things the Brexiters, DUP and ERG don’t like either, he can now. I don’t mean he won’t do brexit but he’s no longer in thrall to the ERG and has scuppered Farage for the time being so can do brexit with an eye on not completely screwing up the economy.
That’s me done, my bellend twat of a Tory alter ego has now taken over.
