Woh woh woh what's all this about AI and automation? I thought we needed more immigrants to come, work and pay taxes so we can pay the pensioners. What will they do for work? Can you tax a robot for the work it does?

I really don't know why people are getting so upset about the four day week - by the time Corbyn's finished most people will be on a no day week

I thinking AI and Automation will end up swallowing up jobs in retail, manufacturing, contact centres etc.

But I read somewhere that one of the huge Wall Street banks(Maybe Merrill Lynch) are investing in AI to replace human traders.

So they could be huge job loses in the City of London and Wall Street.

The loss of tax receipts in that scenario would be very worrying !

The robots will only be working four days a week, maybe a person can do the other day?

It’s probably party political, or economic strategy at least, as to whether some people benefit from not needing to work as long because of automation, but still get a reasonable living, or automation simply means you need less workers so more go on the dole while some companies earn more for their shareholders instead.

Probably vote conservative. Don't really like any of the parties or any of the politicians.

Me, myself and 3 cnc machines, and a young apprentice now, do the work that would previously have been the job of about 20 people across 4 or 5 departments.

I can leave a machine running unattended all day and overnight, doing the work of 3 shifts.

That machine cost less to buy (2nd hand) than I could employ a single person for on minimum wage for a year. It doesn’t go on holiday, it doesn’t need to stop for lunch, it rarely calls in sick, it always does as it’s told, it doesn’t moan about money, it doesn’t suddenly decide to pack up and go to another company and leave me in the ****.

    Automation is the way forward.

All very good but does it clean it's own swarf out? Or is that what the apprentice is for?

Maybe they'll invent a robot to do that in the near future LOL.

Why not form a coalition of all of the above - then rule for a 1,000 years?
