Interesting bit of news/stroke hearsay on Twitter about last night being so windy in the UK. The National Grid were able to produce so much electricity from renewables, that the overall cost of the electricity went into the negative, and to balance the grid they called upon EV and home battery owners to charge their cars and utilities. And effectively paid them to do it: please log in to view this image Of course, if we had masses of storage mega batteries we wouldn't need to take measures to balance the grid, or fire up coal power plants. We'd just charge up the batteries when there is an excess of power and use it when the power supply drops away, to balance out the grid. But it's nice to know now that unbeknown to the vast majority of the population, EV owners were quietly doing their bit.
For some light amusement listen to Jack Dee's introduction to this broadcast from Portsmouth. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000bvxd
You been watching The Mandalorian? It is only available on Disney +...but there are ways It is excellent if you love your Star Wars
Well, apart from the odd drama series which excels, like the recent Middlemarch. And it isn't quite as good since dear old Humph died. But Jeremy Hardy was hilarious. I could listen to him for hours, wittering on, making his sharp but quiet, off-beat observations. Graeme Garden with Barry Cryer doing their Hamish and Dougal was just genius. And there's always Tim Brooke-Taylor who gives that link back to the Cambridge Footlights and The Goodies [along with Garden].
Did anyone watch 'Elizabeth is Missing' on the box last night? What a brilliant performance from Glenda Jackson. Wasn't sure if it was my kind of thing when I read the preview but she has always been a favourite, and I am so pleased I watched it. Marvellous.
I like it a lot . Though not so much Without Humph , They don’t use the older people so much , understandably . My fav radio programme is The Unbelievable Truth
Humph was a one-off, but Jack Dee fills most of the considerable gap he left, and some of the new generation are hilarious. Marcus Brigstocke and Rachel Parris are brilliant, but it’s great when at least one of the old ‘uns are on as well. Just starting now!
