What's the best game you been to that ain't s semi final or a final or the game that won you the title or got you a CL place or promotion. Just a regular league or cup match that was brilliant...and you were there. Mine is the Spurs v Wycombe FA Cup match in Jan 2017. It was possibly going to be the last FA Cup match at WHL and I managed to get tickets for me snd both my girls. My uni kid came home to go to it. We went 2 down the the league one side by ht. In the second hslf we got it back to 2-2. We had used all our subs and then in the 70th minute Trippier went off injured so we had to play the ladt 20 with 20 men. Wycombe went 3-2 up with just 5 or 6 minutes left but we again equalised and in the 5th added on minuted Son scored the winner. It was a great cup tie and it is right up there on the list as one of my favourite matches.
When we beat Everton 3-0 at home and relegated Newcastle with that result. The fact it was on Sky TV was even better. Great atmosphere from start to finish and did I say we relegated Newcastle that night?
I’ll reply tomorrow (today) as I’m done for tonight but it should be pretty funny reading the answers.
In recent times, probably this one. The bloke behind me barked his shins on my seat celebrating our third goal, he was in agony but couldn’t stop smiling through the pain... Beating Spurs 4-0 in the FA Cup in January 2003 still probably the best atmosphere I can remember at St Mary’s, and the stadium was half empty.
9-1 vs Wigan. Crazy, crazy scoreline. 6-0 vs Millwall. First time I’ve seen us play them, happy first time too. Atmosphere was decent. 3-1 vs Inter. Bale got a hattrick in the away game then destroyed them in the home one, “taxi for Maicon”. 0-1 vs West Ham. Dier last second winner, first game under Poch, probably my favourite away day. Any NLD win is always up there but that’s a given.
Many to choose from ... but in terms of significance would have to be Chelsea away, last game of our title winning season ... guard of honour ... trophy on show .... "beyond my widest dreams" is often used but seldom justified ... well this ****ing was!!!
For me the 1982 cup final replay. Played on a Thursday night at Wembley. We won 3-2 and it was the game that included that goal from Ricky Villa.
For me it has to be the last game of the season in ‘94 at home vs Wimbledon. We needed to win to have any chance of staying up. Got there really early with a mate, it was still pay on the gate in those days, and we got into the Gwladys Street when the turnstiles opened. Thousands were locked out that day. We went 0-2 down in the first half and we looked doomed. Wimbledon had never lost a game in which they’d lead 2-0 in their history. We got one back from the spot from Limpar before HT. Second half and Barry Horne pings one into the top bin from 25 yards+ something he’d never done before or after, then the winner late on from Graham Stuart who wrote himself into the clubs history. I’ve never seen a game that held such a myriad of emotions, from fear, desperation, desolation through to unbridled joy at the final whistle. I’ll never forget it. Nor will I forget seeing the trees in Stanley Park behind the then floored Park End which was about to be rebuilt, swaying with the hundreds of lads who’d climbed them to get a view.
Not consciously ... but was on a pacled train to London and on my phone ... ... not that I need a lead in to mention the title win .... but having got your most considerate heads up I will go for 2 ... a game back in the 70s when we were 2-0 down to Liverpool at home before Keith Weller scored a hat-trick to seal a fabulous come back. A... and the 5-2 FA Cup win against Shrewsbury where we had 2 outfield players have to go in goal during the match and came back from 2-1 down
Did you not read the OP? .... Tobes will be furious ... he hates people dwelling on winning things ... him being from the losing side of Liverpool and all
