I'm still underwhelmed. But a one month deal is very low risk. Let's see what the man can do against Middlesbrough tomorrow, and/or Huddersfield at the Valley on Tuesday evening.
Maybe he could compromise and demand a non-apology, which is the modern equivalent - regret any upset caused.
Fairly predictable I would say. Josh Cullen (23) has a lot more miles left in him than Lyle Taylor (29). Assuming we could hang onto him, Josh Cullen could be an important Charlton player for 10 years. In fact I'm a little surprised Cullen isn't further ahead in the poll. I don't see why we can't do both, but sticking to the strict rule of the question - Cullen OR Taylor - I would pick Cullen as well. Personal like or dislike of either player wouldn't come into it.
I felt quite embarrassed this afternoon watching Joe Ledley stroll around the pitch. He hit the occasional sideways pass, but generally speaking a p1ss poor Boro midfield ran straight thru him. I ask again, why do we keep shooting ourselves in the b ollox by picking unfit players?
It bothers me that we've been told Ledley got a one month contract because he consistently impressed Bowyer in training. If the real reason he got the gig is that we're absolutely desperate, I'd prefer LB to just say so. Ledley is making Bowyer look like a chump if he is supposed to be so impressive in training, and then strolls through a vital game.
@lardiman The only positive I can see is that our new owners will surely sanction finances for better players than Ledley in January. New CEO Matt Southall was at the game on Saturday. Without giving away confidences from within the camp, I was told on the train home that Boro had expressed surprise after the game at how poor we were. Boro has 6 kids from the Academy on the pitch at the end ....a CM of Pratley & Ledley is literally useless against such legs.
In the medium term, that is the only positive that matters. I can't see that there's much Bowyer can do between now and mid-January, apart from hope that some players come back from injury and that we don't lose any more. It was surely good to see Lyle Taylor back on the pitch, though I accept he will need time to get his sharpness back, while avoiding another injury breakdown. Our new owners must back Bowyer in January, and if necessary put in a 7 figure sum to get in a couple of really decent players. I have to believe they will do that. I think we both agree that If Duchatelet was still CAFC owner, we would now be odds-on to be relegated. He would have done nothing to help Bowyer. And Lyle Taylor would certainly have been sold.
The geezer had not kicked a ball in 18 months, the famous @Clb74 had his shorts on. Bowyer should have played him.
Ledley's contribution was widely ridiculed by those who were there. How therefore did he manage to impress Bowyer, who knows a thing or two about midfielders, in training? Maybe Bowyer is starting to look through rose-tinted glasses. He's said several times after defeats recently that we were better than them. Trying to keep morale going under impossible circumstances maybe?
I would tend to agree. For me, we have signed Ledley through sheer desperation. A hope that he might produce something, rather than some impressive training. Bowyer can't say that I suppose. But if Ledley plays poorly in front of the home fans next week, many of us will know the truth of it.
