http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/coates-relishing-new-challenge Sebastian Coates admits that the challenge of proving himself in a new country was key to his decision to come to Liverpool. The Uruguayan 20-year-old was one of the most sought-after young players in world football when the Reds signed him at the end of August. International team-mate Luis Suarez helped persuade him that Anfield was a great place to be and the temptation to leave his comfort zone and test himself in one of Europe's biggest leagues was too great to resist. "The biggest attraction was the challenge: to come to an unfamiliar place - a huge club - and make a name for myself," Coates said in an exclusive interview in this week's LFC magazine. "So far in my career, I have been very lucky; to play for Nacional, to play in the Copa Libertadores, to win the Copa America. There has been a lot of success in a short period of time. But I have achieved that in a place where I am most comfortable. "Now, I am here, in a different country, in a different league, with different team-mates. The best players are successful wherever they go. I am determined to become an important player here at a historical stage of the club's future." The central defender also admits that some of Suarez's words had a big influence on his decision. "He helped me from a professional point of view," Coates added. "I knew about the history; the success and the European Cups, but he also taught me about the nature of the supporters - the way they treat the players. When you're wanted by a club that is famous worldwide - by a club with a history like this - it was impossible to go anywhere else." The full Sebastian Coates exclusive, plus interviews with Martin Kelly and Jay Spearing, is in this week's LFC magazine.
Theres a BIG chance for the lad here With Carra and Skrtels form, and Aggers injury. If he gets in and does well, he could very well ,stay in!!!!!
Video of Coates v Spurs. It's unlisted so you won't be able to find it by searching.
Looked pretty decent and he likes to play the ball and pass - although I felt that some of his passes were quite risky and put players under pressure.
Well it's probably to be expected with the type of game it was, and with it being his debut too. Spurs put us under pressure all afternoon. Let's hope he gets some game time against Brighton, which should be an easier game in theory.
I thought he coped pretty well on Sun considering he was thrown in to a difficult game without much English in his vocab. I agree with DayDoDoeDontDayDoe there is a big chance here for this lad, Agger is ****ed again with a broken rib so there is a spot there.
I hope he comes good for us Sunday was not planned by KK but the lad got on with it and considering it was his first game he done ok and it looks like he will get more play as Agger is out again Will he settle as quick as his fellow countryman let's hope so
I think he coped brilliantly on his debut, he was really calm on the ball which impressed me and he read the game before getting in for a tackle. He could do with working on his speed a bit but apart from that I was very impressed with that performance. I'm sure with some more game time he'll get more comfortable with his surroundings and shine even more.
When it comes to his speed, that might be a lsight problem but I think it is more with the way we play our defensive line. Paletta had this problem when he came over. A very good defender but he couldn't cope with the speed of the game, the higher defending up the field leaving lots of space behind him and he got torched. I think Coates can deal with it and is at a higher level than Paletta but it is one of the reasons he got done by Adebayor as well, other than just the pace.
He look's like he read's the game well, early day's for him but im confident he will go on to be a success.
