Christmas is ****ing ****. My kids have always been of the understanding that it's meaningless and a waste of money. There's nothing to celebrate for us, it's just one big nonsense. Now birthdays is where it happens for my family. That's the day my kids were brought into the world and it's a day I love celebrating and reminiscing. I'll spend about 100 quid on each kid for Christmas if they're lucky. Birthdays I go way over the top, it's usually a holiday or something a bit special for them.
I always think it’s a shame when I hear / read comments like that. Christmas for me has always been having a laugh with your family, spending some quality time with everyone. Get smashed and enjoy it.
Indeed, Christmas is a time when you collectively celebrate and have a good time etc. Birthdays are individual occasions. Like I said in the OP though, people have their reasons and for some it's a time that can bring bad memories to the fore. I understand how people see it as a commercial monster as well but it's long since evolved beyond a religious celebration, way beyond, it's now just a period in time when a large proportion of the world have a holiday at the same time. And have a good old knees up like. If you're of cockney persuasion. Apart from the Eastenders, they spend the time killing each other mainly.
Not sure of my plans for xmas tbh, i will be putting up one of my mates, whos had a ****ty time of things this year and i dont want him on his ones for xmas, also my old man has split up with his wife of 30+years so hes not in the best of places either, bit worried about him as hes deffo gonna be hitting the bottle and hes good at hiding his misery. Not a huge xmas person tbh lots of bad history and memories fill this time of year personally, but i will make the effort for others as always.
I want some blacksticks and a couple of Camembert. Not sure what else. Depends how frivolous I am. Wouldn’t mind another stab at some stinking bishop. Last time I bought some I split up with my ex on Boxing Day. So might leave that one out.
Hadn't thought about it but I quite fancy getting some kind of mixed cheese board. My go to cheese for Christmas is usually gorgonzola.
Bit of a change for us this Christmas, we go out a lot through the year and usually stay in a lot at Christmas but as the kids have got older they start getting on our case about getting a lift here and there. So this year it's going out a bit more for a walk and a beer or two.
Cornish Gouda, it's ****ing lovely. I know a cheese maker through my work and he does one with Fenugreek seeds in it, it's amazing. Another one I'll get in is Black Bomber. It's a Welsh cheese, you might know it ?
