Not having this. Adrian took 46 seconds to get in and line up his wall. The feed I was watching on timed his mistake. He initially went to the wall spent like 10 secs there then went to line up the wall for another 20. No Liverpool player saw it fit to stand over the ball too.

It was poor defending by us and we only have ourselves to blame.

The whistle is suppose to let everyone on the pitch know the game is about to restart (once everyone is ready). Blowing it as Dunk struck the ball wasn't giving anyone time to react to the whistle, never mind the freekick.

If you're happy to let them take it quickly, fine. But don't say signal that the game will be restarted on the whistle and then do that.

All of which is fine. But the ref blew the whistle to signal the restart as the player struck the ball AFTER saying the game would restart on the whistle. Even the Brighton player said he wasn't due which was first; him taking the freekick or the refs whistle.

I watched the replay. Dunk talks to Atkinson about the kick. Atkinson gives him the nod then he blows as Dunk takes his run up. Clear collusion.

Just wondering if anyone can remember another goal this season in the prem where the red has signalled to play on before the goalkeeper was ready, or is this another Atkinson special?

Just watched motd. Reality is that we should have been 3 or 4 up before Alisson got sent off. On another day Brighton would have had a real beating.

On the sending off, Alisson must have been distraught after taking one for the team and then conceding anyway! That was scandalous.

Anyway - Everton at home on Wednesday with one more day to recover than them.

    I have two more questions
1, why did MOTD pay no attention to the "quick" free kick situation?
2, what does the guidance\ rules for refs say about quick free kicks?

cba to look it up but i thought that if the ref signals that you need to wait for the whistle , as he is marking out the wall line for example , then the norm is he signals as he whistles and off you go however the norm is they wait for both teams to have set up to their satisfaction .
As Lamborini said though whatever we think about the taking of the FK we were sleeping when it happened .

To add to that, they had players stood in our wall which isnt allowed under the new rules

    exactly.

I agree that we fell asleep and should have done better but the goal shouldn’t have stood.

We seriously need to complain about Martin Atkinson because he’s getting a lot of decisions wrong which haven’t cost us yet (bar United).

I think there was a gap - whether or not it was sufficient gap I couldn't tell.

At HT I thought my 4-0 wish/hope/prediction was looking good. Within 5 minutes of the second half I could see we'd taken our foot off the gas yet again and there was a danger of them coming back into it.
We really have to stop doing this. If we were 4-0 up at half time then cruising the second might be understandable, but 2-0 is always a dangerous scoreline to ease off at.
I don't know what I think of their goal, but really we shouldn't be in a position for it to matter.

Do you think it is something we are consciously doing in a way to manage this period of high volume of games ?

Most definately. We played 100% heavy metal football the first 2 winters Klopp was in charge and wore out badly (I think I can remember a single point in Jan 2 years ago). Last year we took foot off pedal when leading and rotated heavily to manage the xmas schedule and looks as though we are doing sa,e this year.

I doubt it - it's way too risky. I think it's a subconscious thing, and once it happens it can be difficult to shake oneself out of it.
Like I said, at 4-0 up it's ok to manage the game, but at 2-0 you just can't take the attitude that the game is all but won.

Just seen the FK again and there was a gap between the wall and the BHA player so goal was fine .

Edit - tbh not sure refs are really looking at this anymore anyway unless someone tries to get in middle of the wall .

    It was poor all round.
Adrian was screaming at the wall to move. Of course he can't be heard for the racket but nobody turned to look and see what their keeper's instructions were. Apart from Gini, standing behind them, who just looked vague.
But, as I said, the second half was just pants anyway.
