The rule's fundamentally flawed. In theory it sounded good but it hasn't worked. It's caused goals to be scrutinised for about 5 minutes by VAR to determine if the ball hit someone's shoulder or arm.

If you're referring to Alexander-Arnold, then that isn't a direct comparison to today. The handball rule for the defending side (Liverpool in that case) is effectively different to the handball rule for the attacking side (us today).

Although what is arguably more a direct comparison is two seconds before the ball hit Alexander-Arnold's arm, when it first hit Silva's arm. That too was totally accidental. But as the attacker, that doesn't matter any more.

Are you saying AA’s handball was accidental?

This then means, go into any challenge and spread you body into a star fish as it’s accidental..:

A wise man once said don't bicker when you win, don't bicker when you lose, don't even bicker when you draw.

Just draw a blue line under it, move on and get on the bus.

I haven't made any comment on whether AA handball was accidental or not. (In fact, it's not about accidental any more for the defending side. It's about whether the arm is away from your body, whether the ball takes a deflection first, and the distance away from the ball.)

My comment is that comparing that incident with today isn't a correct comparison. A comparison to today would be the Jesus goal which was ruled out vs Spurs. The tiniest touch in the world off Laporte's arm, as I recall. His arm wasn't in an unnatural position, it didn't change the direction of the ball, but because it touched the arm of an attacker, this stupid new rule denied the goal. Correctly. Infuriatingly, but correctly.

Why should the rule for an attacking player be so much harsher than for a defending player? It's just wrong.

Wasn’t it agreed that Jesus’ goal was wrongly ruled out though?

    Not that I'm aware.

There was a shirt pull in that game, which wasn't given as a penalty, but was later accepted that it should have been a penalty. But to the best of my knowledge, the Jesus goal was correctly ruled out.

Not that I feel any sympathy for Watford, but this is actually the second time it's happened to them!

Newcastle scored against them earlier in the season where a handball was involved in the build up, and VAR missed that too. PL accepted afterwards that it should have been ruled out.

    Just scrap the rule, please!
