Me too mate. The bookshop on my local Hight Street has been there for decades, I’d be heartbroken if they shut. Use it or lose it. Nice to see a few record shops finally making a reappearance btw.
Also try and get my music from the local record shop . Gullivers book shop in Wimborne and Square Records in wimborne . As you rightly say , use it or lose it . I went to the Arndale centre in Wimborne last night and watched a Talk followed by a book signing with Henry Blowfeld last night . As arranged by the book shop , got a signed copy of his new book . He was very funny and interesting . not sure you get that from amazon.....
A lot of folk like the Kindle thing but for me, nothing comes close to the feel of a well read book. Digital is fine for some things but the analogue world is more to my liking. Vinyl albums over digital streaming all day long, and paper over pixels, but each to their own.
Totally agree about each to their own . Kindle is more convenient for holiday , but I much prefer holding a book . As for Vinyl , I know your not alone in that . Bet you get like from another poster beginning with A
I bought a leather bound copy of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayam from a junk shop the other day, along with a miniature leather bound pamphlet of four Dante Gabriel Rossetti poems, for £7 the two. Both in excellent condition.
I tried Audible books for a while..........but had to stick to UK authors as I couldn't stand the American accent..........I have now read a couple of the books I listened to and what a difference that makes! Almost a completely different impression of what is going on..........As long as I can read that will be my way forward.
I have an Audible account and I think it depends on the book whether it is a UK or US accent. I often get the same book on the kindle and audible so I can read where I can and the Audible book just picks up where you left off if you get in the car or are walking the dogs etc. On holiday it is even better as you can lie back and not get frown lines from tanning lol The best Audible books though tend to be autobiographies as they are normally read by the subject, so you really get a feeling for what they are saying. I also find now I can't read a David Baldacci book without hearing Kyf Brewer (his normal narrator) in my head if I am reading it
Sadly missed but a wonderful example of Brutalist Architechture at its finest!!! please log in to view this image
With a bit of imagination, this could have been reformed, but if asbestos was used in the construction, then it had to go.
Ha! With a bit of imagination they would have built something less hideous in the first place . Was there asbestos in it ? I don't remember hearing about that. Just read it was pulled down 15yrs ago, so sad .
Should we be sending Archers on a Treasure Hunt, to keep him busy and warm for the next 6 hours? Someone name something and he has to go and photograph it.
There’s asbestos in every building that went up in this first half of the 20thC. All public buildings will have an asbestos register. It’s not particularly hazardous so long as it’s dealt with using the appropriate procedures.
