Yes, as I say, it was Ch 4's privilege to reject Gove for whatever reason. But the ice sculpture stuff, particularly during a GE and bearing in mind those running Ch 4 news are more like Corbyn activists than professionals, should be stamped on hard. They bring the reputation of reliable objective news sources in the UK down to the gutter.

Can you imagine if it was Corbyn who didn't attend and he was made into an ice sculpture? Imagine this board today? It was disrespectful to portray the Prime Minister like that. TBH CH4 is only good for a dirty foreign film. The news is a joke and I believe it's viewing figures are down more now than when it was in trouble a few years back?
    Yeah I was right...

Channel 4 News has in part blamed “Brexit fatigue” after its average viewing audience fell by a tenth in 2018.

A much better video and more professional. It's not what it stands for, it's about the quality. I was hoping the 'Beeb' one was going to make me laugh and it ended up being crap.
I actually enjoy the videos that mock all sides. :emoticon-0148-yes:

So are we going to ban Sky News too, for having a right wing editorial stance?

I'm no fan on C4 news and their broadly left output. But to threaten their existence because they do something you don't like is utterly ridiculous and attacks one of the basic tenants of our democracy - free press. It's also stupidly short term. If the Tories do this do C4 now, when Labour get back in (be it three weeks or 15 years) they will have freedom to do the same to Sky, or The Mail and the Tories couldn't complain.

As an aside, this is probably *exactly* what Cummings and Boris want. Us debating the merits of their threat to C4 instead of talking about what a coward Boris is for avoiding any serious interrogation.

Quality please tell me you have watched SkyNews! They have been the biggest remainer broadcaster (after the BBC). It got to the stage where I would turn it off because they were so pro remain. Their presenters went OTT with leave guests.

However getting back to your point... I don't think the government would really make sure the plug gets pulled on CH4. The channel is failing and it will go bust without the Tories help.

Funnily, as I post, Boris is taking questions and they specifically asked for someone from CH4 to ask him a question... there was laughter but he took the question.

No wonder the Tories don't want Johnson to be asked any questions about anything. I just heard him interviewed by ultra-Tory Nick Ferrari on LBC and he came across as a bumbling idiot. Ferrari didn't exactly give him a hard time, so what would Andrew Neil do to him?

The blue outrage on here over the ice sculpture is hilarious. It was nothing more than the cowardly drunk deserved.

What is your evidence that Sky News has a right wing stance?

You are getting confused. There is a difference between the rules governing the press, and those governing broadcasting which comes under Ofcom's remit. Here are the rules that Sky sets out for itself. Channel 4 News should have something similar, since they too fall under Ofcom. If they breach the terms, they lose their licence:

"Sky News must always be duly impartial and duly accurate. We always strive to solicit a broad range of views and voices on our stories and never to show favour to – or be influenced by – any side of a story.

The Communications Act and the Ofcom Broadcasting Code set out special impartiality requirements for coverage of matters relating to political or industrial controversy or matters relating to public policy. The rules include:

    — Not allowing our personal views or opinions to form a part of our coverage

—Making sure views and facts are not misrepresented

—Making sure all significant opinion is duly reflected on any controversial issues

—Making sure any personal interest of a reporter or presenter is made clear to viewers- they must not use their position to express their own views

—Members of staff have a duty to disclose to senior management any personal interest which may potentially jeopardise their duty to report with due impartiality

—Making sure particular views and opinions are not given undue prominence over others. We should also make sure that the personal views and interests of those we invite to contribute are established and made clear to the viewer if it would be misleading not to do so. If we are not certain of a guest’s views we should ask them before allowing them on any of our platforms.

When using video or still images of people in the news it is crucial that we do not make mistakes. We should NEVER use pictures from an online news source without double checking they are correct. Particular caution is required with people who are relatively unknown. If there is even the smallest doubt about the identity of the person featured then the material should not be passed on. Once it is in the system mistakes become much more likely. The consequences of such mistakes are extremely serious from a reputational and financial perspective."

I certainly don't agree on Sky or BBC. Have you not noticed how every leaver thinks almost all media are biased towards remain? And every remainer thinks almost all media are biased towards leave? Broadly, I think media in this country, particularly the BBC, does a good job of being impartial. They fact they get flak from both sides is good evidence for this. Sky undoubtedly have a center-right bias, in the same way C4 clearly lean to the left. Quite widely accepted, and for good reason.

It's all well and good having confidence they won't pull the plug on C4, but by making the threat, they are attempting to bully C4 into a particular course of action, which is just as bad. It's an attack on free press and shouldn't happen.

As I say, I'm more concerned about why he's so scared of Andrew Neil, C4 et al. It's cowardice. Does he really think he can't do better than the car crash we saw from Corbyn?!

Bloody hell Gisela Stuart just said that she is a life long Labour supporter but the public should vote for Boris in the General Election!

I like Sky News - it speaks to my world view, its reporting is often more forensic than that of the BBC, and it certainly covers key national events without dumbing things down as much as the BBC does. It's hard to watch Adam Boulton (who I like) or Jayne Secker without seeing a centre-right, Times-type, bias. Despite, as you flag, them striving for better.

As I say - I'm guilty of falling into the Tory trap for even debating this, as they're trying to distract from Boris being a coward...

I can't agree about Sky but I don't see the point of us boring each other over it. For me I wouldn't call it
'center-right bias'. I have seen and heard the presenters in interviews.

I don't know why Boris won't do the Andrew Neil interview. Maybe he thinks he will get done like Corbyn. Although I can't believe he would ever be as bad as that. Someone in No10 has probably told him not to do it as the fall out won't be as bad? I don't know. TBH Boris has had 2 bad days and probably doesn't want any more.
CH4 were wrong to mock the PM with a block of ice... it's also funny that the production company happened to have the ice handy? Maybe they knew he wasn't going to show?

I wish Sky News would pass on those impartiality guidelines to their Sports team - FFS, every co-commentator on there seems to fawn all over whomever we're playing against when we're the live match, whilst having little digs at "poor old QPR" - ****s!
