Has anybody watched Mindhunter on Netflix. Just watched the first episode and looks like it could be good.

Just watched the Mallorca Files (2.15 BBC1). Decided to catch up as I'd missed the first two episodes...eight hours later at 01.45 in the morning I had watched all 10 episodes on iPlayer :p A police series about a British female police officer and a German male police officer working for the Mallorcan police (it's a British/German production, also being released in the US)….imagine Starsky and Hutch meets Death in Paradise. Probably more for the ladies, but worth seeing for the Majorcan scenery...loved the scenes on the Soller train....brought back memories.

Saw this in a story on BBC about the Australian bushfires

Black kites, whistling kites and brown falcons have even been spotted picking up burning twigs, flying to areas of unburned grass and dropping them to start new fires there. This exposes their prey attempting to flee the blazes: small mammals, birds, lizards and insects.
"This behaviour helps them find small reptiles to eat more easily," says Prof Ritchie. "You could hypothesise they create these fires for their own advantage."
This hypothesis is backed up by a study of witness accounts undertaken by Bob Gosford, an ornithologist in the Northern Territory, who led the documentation of 20 witness accounts taken over six years.

Looks like birds are not just smarter than I thought, but are bigger bastards too

Birds starting more fires to increase their hunting advantage. I'm calling bullshit. Unless someone finds a video of one of the little pyro's......and then I'm still calling BS!

lol. I've been prevented from replying on the Author thread just in case I talk crap! (and probably this one in a minute) abuse of power?

Anyway I heartily recommend Phillip Pulman's books and if you'd like to learn about Balkan history try an English version of Ivo Andric's A bridge on the Drina.

Sounds very interesting. Thanks, Fran! I’ll find it on iPlayer and watch after I’ve finished Giri/Haji which is proving excellent!

I hope they both get suitable tribute programmes which show just how much they contributed.
    RIP Jonathan and Clive <rose>

I can believe this...some birds are very bright. I saw a film where crows would collect bread from people feeding birds, take it to a lake, throw it in and eat fish that came up to eat it.
