Bloody hell, where were you in 97/98 when he dismantled a side that finished second two years in a row? Football man he might be, but in a world where people criticised Keegan for being out of touch with modern football Kennys done nothing of note since Blackburn! Outside of Shepherd himself there are few people I blame more for our late 90s/early 00's slump. I generally agree with you on most things (even though we're veering on opposite sides of the Ashley fence) but my disdain for Dalglish, Souness and Gullit clearly isn't shared.

I wouldn't claim he had a great time of it here, but it was more to do with him being the wrong appointment by our bungling board. Him and Keegan were polar opposites and each manager has to be allowed to build his own team. Therefore we needed a manager who was similar to Keegan if we going to make use of the squad we had. I loved the team Keegan had built but I knew he'd want his own team as he plays the game a different way. He also had to deal with having no where near the funds previously afforded to us after some extravangant spending. I would guess his net spend was probably around 15m which is peanuts when you look at Keegan and subsequent managers, and certainly when trying to rebuild a team. Pretty sure he has since said he was told to get the wage bill under control following Keegans departure. This resulted in him having to look to old guys on cheap wages for frees to fill his squad out. He actually made some really good signings in his time which stood us in good stead over Bobbys reign. Solano, Speed, Dabizas, Griffin and Given all did fine jobs for us in the future. Of course he dropped some clangers with Dahl Tomasson, Andersson etc, but even the best do.

I don't agree Keegan was out of touch either. Him and Kenny are good examples of people who just know football. Keegan did a nice job with us 2nd, as Kenny has done so far with Liverpool. My disdain for Souness in terms of football management will never change. He knows **** all about football management. He was appointed here to bring discipline following Bobby's supposed loss of the dressing room, once again Freddy showing how thick he is, he thought disciplinarian but forgot he needs to know football too. Same goes for Gullit who was living off Hoddles work at Chelsea.

So I think we're still on the same hymn sheet but its just in Dalglishs case I feel there are mitigating factors for his failure. Whereas Gullit and Souness were just plain rubbish! Not sure about the Ashley stuff, I'd be lying if I said I knew what all on heres stand on Ashley is. My own view is he is an absolute **** who I'll never forgive for the shame heaped on us by his actions. but we are stuck with him until he decides otherwise so I see little point in moaning about it.

SAFC fan in peace - totally agree 100% - the Liverpool fans have slated Henderson - Henderson and Carroll - total cost = £55m - probably total worth - 8-10m

Since you guys sold him he has scored 2 league goals - and leon best has scored 9!!! Is best wirth £35m?? (Just ask Liverpool - although your owner won't let you replace him!!)

Personally I think the people laughing are the people who bank the transfer cheques at our 2 respective clubs ATM - neither have been hugely missed

    Edit:

Have just pulled this from Ze Liverbird (regular poster from what I remember):

    Suarez - 9
    Enrique - 8
    Downing - 8
    Coates - 7
    Bellamy - 7
    Hendo, Adam, Carroll - 3

Marks on the signings so far!! Henderson, Adam and Carroll all get a 3 - and Adrian Druham said us Sunderland fans slagged our players off too easily (when a minority had a go at Henderson last season)!!

Wow! Not sure what Coates has done to earn a 7 in his eyes? I thought he looked dire on the weekend after coming on. Same goes for Bellamy of course. That said, he probably gave the other 3 high marks before they actually set foot on the pitch in red.
