I have agreat respect for Martin Skrtel especially because he is prepared to play out of position without question. If he cannot get a game in the centre back;I think he should be on the bench. Your opinion.?
He played well in a couple of games but is not going to perform in that position week after week. Johnson and Kelly are the main players when fit but I think Flanagan should cover while they are injured. He is a bit rash but needs games in order to learn and develop.
He's far to much of a traditional CB to even be considered to play RB. Fair play to him for playing there when asked, but in my opinion he shouldn't of been asked in the first place.
I don't know why, when presented with the options of Agger, Carragher, and Skrtel, you'd pick Skrtel to play there. I'd have thought a CB pairing of Agger and Skrtel with Carragher at RB would be the best thing to do in that situation. That being said, Skrtel came on against Bolton and did pretty well, and wasn't really tested against Stoke, so maybe Kenny thought he was better off keeping him there. Also, I don't think anyone would have done particularly well against an in-form Bale.
You cannot castigate Skrtel for his performance against Spurs - except maybe for not winning that challenge with Defoe. Kenny should thank him for his efforts. However, he should never be put in that position again. At CB we have to consider him as part of a unit. Agger is injured again. Coates has only just stated to play. Carra is coming to the end of his career. Kelly is still persuing his career at RB but can be used at CB. What we need is for this unit of players to be coached in such a way that they can operate effectively no matter which player is selected.
Never again, he was visibly scared in the end against Spurs. When HE was in possession himself he was hesitating and losing the ball. Not his fault though - can't understand what KK was thinking putting him there, Carra plays RB when needed and does a good job.
Nothing on the club site but then they only returned today so the medics will need a while to see exactly what's wrong.
That's more than a tad hard when he was facing arguably the fastest wide player in the Prem AND an FB who is no slouch either! As importantly he was getting no cover whatsoever from Henderson. However I do agree that he should never be played there again.
I was really surprised that Kuyt didn't play he would have helped Skrtel and made his job a lot easier.
That Agger fella must be made out of glass or something, he's out now for a month it say's with a broken rib. Don't get me wrong I think he's a good player when he's fit but im seriously starting to think he should be moved on because he is so injury prone. Skrtel is ok, he would be a decent squad player but not an every week player imo and defo not a right back. We have been linked with some defender off Ajax today and im hoping we get a centre half in Jan.
Skrtel is a good player for at CB but RB no chance As for Agger he is class when fit but like mentioned he is made out of glass. I've been saying for a while that we should let him go and there are prob people going to disagree but this is just my opinion. Like i said he is class but made out of glass SHAME
This is how Aggers injury's start he get's an injury that keep's him out for a few week's then he come's back and get's litlle niggly injury's. It happen's every season.
It was Gareth Bale on form (except for his shooting) Skrtel isn't a fullback but he could do a job against a lesser winger. Youngflannagan would have been raped, humiliated, then raped again by Bale in that form. We were going to lose that match anyway with that centremid paring. In a way Skrtel did the club a favour by saving Flannagan from 2-3 years in a padded cell moaning "BBale, Baaale, Bale" over and over again.
Don't want him back there again would rather Carragher there although he would have been up against Bale, he would have wise enough not to get caught out like Skrtel
Don't agree with you. Flanagan might have been given a hard time, but he at least has the pace to avoid being completely exposed by Bale. He did well against Arsenal last season, and against Man Citeh didn't look out of his depth when David Silva came off the bench around the hour mark. Bale was good, but he had a pace advantage over Skrtel, and Skrtel didn't have the positional sense to make up for that.
I'm with St John on this one guys/girls. I'm not so sure that Flanagan would have done as badly as some are suggesting say. He's got a decent turn of pace and Spurs targetted Skrtel simply because he was out of position so often and never had the pace to recover (not his fault just not his position). Personally I'd have played Flan with Kuyt in front of him to provide some protection and I don't think Spurs would have had half as much joy as they did have....but we'll never know now. It's done and dusted but as for a right back...not Skrts there again and if Kelly/Johnson out injured it should be Flanagan if fit.
