Charlie Adam has settled in well at Liverpool, his passing, movement, vision and team skills have really boosted Liverpool's attack and made the team much stronger in possession. But take the ball away from LFC and we gain a problem. I am a big fan of Adam, but I had one major concern when we signed him. He cannot tackle. His tackling technique, timing and confidence is terrible. His tracking back is also poor. Last season Adam's disciplinary record was poor for Blackpool due to his poor tackling. I have to admit, I was waiting for the incident of yesterday to happen. Adam has improved our team, but if he wants to keep his place, especially with the return of Gerrard imminent, he has to improve his defensive skills.
He got 11 yellows last year with Blackpool, but no reds. Strangely enough, Blackpool had the least amount of yellow cards in the prem (47)
He mig just be trying too hard and going in for tackles that he wouldn't normal go in for. There is alot of competition for your midfield and with that and trying to impress his new clubs fans / management that will probably be contributing.
I dont know. I'v seen him do some terrible tackles in the past. We dont want him to end up like Paul Scholes. I know Scholes was very successful, but he never learnt to tackle and it was also nervy seeing him helping out the defence for England... Or against Liverpool.
He almost seriously damaged Bales' leg near the end of last season as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpEYhKWOF2c Nasty, still makes me cringe, that kept him out for long enough but it could have been so much worse
Spearing's tackling is far better than Adam, but he doesn't add the passing, vision and forward delivery quite to the same level as Adam. I am a fan of Adam btw, I am glad we have him.
I don't think it is too much of a problem tbh, Lucas is the tackler and the one who tracks back - would rather this than 2 defensive holding midfielders, Adam is there to create and get play running. Only time this will be a problem I think is if Adam and Gerrard pair up in the centre cos Adam will then act as the holding midfielder and as said is very rash with his tackles.
My abiding memory of the game on Sunday was the way Scotty Parker looked as though he'd been playing for Spurs for five years.... I think we missed out there (if it was ever on.) GKRK.
When Lucas came to us he was going hard and reckless into players conceding free kicks in dangerous areas and look what has become of him Now i'm not saying that it will take Adam 2/3 seasons but for crying out load give the lad time Like mentioned he might be a bit to keen to impress KK because he knows we have a lot of midfield players Yes he did get a lot of yellows last season but he just has to learn a bit of discipline when going in With the right guidance he will come good for us
The problem his is Adam's positional awareness iS awful, he always gets caughts in the wrong positions to win the ball back so he ends up giving away free kicks and getting cheap yellows.
yeah when he got booked (first yellow) i somehow knew that a second was going to come, but didnt think itd be that early. Hes been a bit rash with tackles and the other games also worried me a little regarding bookings
As a neutral - this 100000000%!! Shocking tackle - and he did the same against us but got away with it cos the players foot wasn't planted - he's going to find it very difficult to tackly like that - he should have walked for that challneenge on Bale and could easily have been sent off a few more times last season
Never thought I'd see a football fan who watches Lee Cattermole and Phil Bardsley weekly complaining about other players tackling
heres one simple point. if you are in the RIGHT position in the first place you don't have to make lunging challenges do you? mr adam was simply made look stupid by spurs as he'd lose his position and wandered round ball watching we never got our midfield starting position right on sunday and spurs walked through us with a few easy passes. its that simple, work the position, track the runners and then make yourself available for a pass when your side as it. but you need to be fitter for that don't you?
When you learn how to defend when you are a young player ( at least for me), the Coach always, or should, say that sliding/lunging/jumping in is a last last resort and your footwork and positioning should be your tools to win the ball effectively. Guys like Maldini knew when to stand players up, where to be, and when a slide was necessary. I know that example was for a defender, not a midfielder, but the rule still applies.
