Hope all replumbed ok Dave and you came home to a good result even if a little unhelpful to your friends.
Morning all. It is dry and very mild this morning in Bucks. Dreadful journey through the Cotswolds yesterday night with lots of standing water and flood signs out all over the place, then places where there was fog. Still had a great day in Gloucester with family gathering from around the country. Glad to see you back Dave, and hope that things are sorted. Enjoy your day whatever is in store for you.
I wondered where the other supplier of streams was yesterday. We had a smooth journey back from Pembrokshire even though it takes 9 hours, beautiful through mid Wales after escaping the rain and the M6/M74 north of Lancaster is always a joy and quiet, a restrained 80 mph all the way on that bit. Boy was it wet in Wales and everyone thinks Scotland has bad weather!
Morning all. Bucks is rather grey and overcast, but it is currently dry. Just seen a kite land on a TV aerial across the road and the whole thing has gone sideways, now at 45° degrees. I wonder if they will still get a decent picture? I have seen more cars and lorries go past the house in the last five minutes than I would see in a year when at home. It continues into the late evening, then starts up again about 6.00 am. I need to go into Aylesbury today and know where I can park for two hours free of charge. Parking fees are not something I am used to or approve of. Enjoy whatever you might be getting up to.
The traffic around has increased exponentially with the Darla bottling plant opening up a few years ago with its 24hour cycle, a ridiculous amount of housebuilding (mainly on or close to flood planes) which I didn't think was either necessary in the area nor appropriately planned.. especially around Broughton and Bedgrove / Weston Turville which has urbanised the area from Aylesbury through almost to Wendover. Then there's the HS2 (deep breath, Fez, count to ten.... make it 20 ) enablement works although there is the silver lining of the new road surfacing along the A413 which has reduced traffic noise considerably... how long the surface lasts for I'm not going to suggest. Other roads around have also been resurface but, frankly, they're rubbish. Very disappointed. And as a consequence of all this additional traffic the air quality has diminished too. Getting grumpy in my old age.
I don't mind parking fees if it keeps cars moving along, I like the ones that give you a free period and then charge or ones that limit to short period. I really hate paying massive amounts for council and NCP type car parks. Edinburgh is appalling for this.
Banbury had a multi storey car park owned by the council. It needed a lot of repairs, that they couldn't fund, so demolished it. It is now just a bit of flat concrete covering the area of the original car park. This of course meant loss of revenue, so to compensate they increased the price on all of the other parking areas. Where you had the first half hour free giving you just enough time to pop into the bank or town centre shops, it now has a minimum charge of a pound. This has had the effect of even less people going to the town centre, and more shops closing.
Morning all. Grey and blowy in this part of the country today. I went to the shop yesterday to buy some more milk and as I was about to make a dash through a downpour the shop owner hoped that I would have a nice day. I looked at the rain sheeting down, then at the man, and we both laughed at the inappropriate comment. Later l went to the bank and the girl who had the job of being nice to customers said as I was leaving, "See you later". She had no idea if she would see me again. Have we become like the newspapers and talk in catchphrases? Anyway I really hope you have a good day.
Morning all. Lovely blue sky and quite mild for the time of year. Passing by Bicester Village which is a huge retail outlet for famous name brands I noticed that the coach loads of Chinese tourists were arriving. I hate the place with the shoddy goods with a label seen in the back, but apparently it is a must visit stop off for these visitors. I will not be going there. Have a good day whatever you have planned.
Reminds me of my first trip to the US in the early seventies... where a waitress said to me ' have a good day' ... I responded with warmth thinking she meant it! On my next visit to the US the same people were saying ' have a better one'
