Smoking is just another way of robbing the poor. Why are people getting their panties in a twist over it?
I'm a smoker too and I was pissed off when the smoking ban was passed, but if you look back at the history of smoking adverts, they deserve to be banned. F1 was a constant Malboro advert, I actually want to smoke when I see stacks of cigarettes behind the counter, if you want to smoke it should be your own decision, not because they're always there advertised to you. I'd be much happier if I'd never touched a ciggy in my life. But when it comes to films, you have to take into account the money involved. Do you really think they'll ban the Harry Potter films or Lord of the Rings films to be shown to kids? Smoking will always happen on TV/in the cinemas because it's something that people do, films would look fake without it. The film industry is too big to suffer from ****ty laws, but people like you and jordan can go on as much as you want about the 'nanny-state', some people in this country are so stupid they need all the help they can get.
You cannot even enjoy Tom and Jerry or Laurel and Hardy these days due to political correctness and violence.
*** advertising has had to re-invent itself several times over the last few decades. Indeed, cartoon smokes guy Joe Camel can't be used in adverts anymore so he's had to be a bit cleverer and get his branded face in the papers by marrying Beyonce and rapping to the kiddies please log in to view this image
Toby - I tend to agree with a lot of what you say in response to my earlier comment, particularly the bit about, 'if you want to smoke it should be your own decision'. However, back to the film industry, one thing that could be a concern within this argument, is the Americans IMO, have turned very anti smoking since the death (and pending lawsuits) of the Marlboro man, it appeared like a sudden anti smoking fever swept through the states. So bear in mind that same country have Hollywood, LA, that it might not seem so far from reality as we may think.
the biggest influence on smoking is parents. everything comes from the home. it's effing ridiculious to rate movies 18 just because someone smokes in it. films should be as realistic as possible when intended, but putting age restrictions on smoking in films will force directors to cut it out as an 18 rated movie will not make as much at the cinemas.
The smokers are quietly fighting back. Our "Free Cigarettes for Kids" campaign is going very well in and around Glasgow. Building on this phenomenal success we going UK wide with it next month. Then, come the day of the revolution, we will put all you non-smoking ****s up against the wall with a firing squad. We will, of course, offer you a last cigarette before you get shot, as is the custom.
The only flaw in that plan is that we need to catch the non-smokers first and their healthy bastard lungs make them difficult to pin down
Hmmm. This is true. We'll have to set traps for them, disguised as "non-smoking" and "completely and utterly 100% smoke free" areas. That'll work.
EASY! their be the one sitting in the pub on their own. Obviously if you get the wrong person it don't matter, because according to the scare mongers they was going to die anyway - you could call it a saving the NHS plan
