You really believe that our people won’t swallow the rhetoric? I wonder what the viewing figures were for last night.

This is not an objective analysis, but I've just looked at the headlines of today's papers, the day after the Leaders QT. None of the Tory Tabloids (Mail, Sun, Express) noticeably mention the debate on their front pages. Are these papers unable to 'Big Up' anything Boris said, and/or unable to put down Jeremy Corbyn's appearance?
The best that The Telegraph could come up with is that Corbyn will not campaign for his own deal with the EU.
No, he won't, because he is maintaining a neutral standpoint!

Are cracks starting to appear in Boris' support from the press? Have they run out of ideas to make his blustering look like anything other than confused public school braggadocio?

Express accuse BBC of pro Corbyn audience bias

They hate it when it’s a fair fight because it exposes the truth that Corbyn can actually answer proper questions and passionately believes what he says

Bias was actually pro Intelligent questions

Yes, a lot of people will continue to be fooled. Thanks to both socials media and our own complicit press, we now appear to live in the age of unreason. And a lot of people will vote for Boris’ Tories because his ‘Brexit At Any Cost’ message still appeals.

But there is a powerful counter influence here. Boris used to be box office, that’s why the Tories chose him as their leader. Now he’s toxic. Huge numbers of people are waking up to the fact that he is a dishonest, unprincipled, self serving charlatan.

Everywhere he goes, he gets jeered. Last week when he claimed to believe that the truth was important, the studio audience laughed out loud. He’s a liar, people know it, and every time he appears in public he compounds that view; which his why his handlers will be keeping him out of the public eye as much as they can for the rest of this campaign.

I dunno mate. Maybe my optimism is a delusion. I also think there’s an excellent chance of Saints getting at least a point today. The tide turns here (now, where’re the lifeboats).

Parties were asked by BBC to provide someone post-debate to answer follow up Qs

They all did except Tories who weren’t able to provide anyone!!!

BTW One of the highlights for me was the audience member pointing out that Harold Wilson took a neutral stance on first Common Market referendum

Sorry, Dave, but I have to agree with Archers as I think Corbyn will get a majority and he will not need the support of the SNP either. It is fascinating just how Boris has been kept out of the media. It is just the same as per the Tory leadership campaign where it is realised that give him enough rope and he will hang himself. I find this a staggering turnaround from the campaign to be London Mayor when he seduced the electorate. This time it is pretty clear that the electorate have turned against him. He is electoral poison.

I felt that the ITV debate started to see the tide start to turn. The launch of the "Manifesto of Hope" has captured the public's imagination and Corbyn's campaign appearances demonstrate that he has stepped up his act from his role of the Leader of the Opposition. The one thing that Corbyn is good at is campaigning and the Labour Party are definitely on the ascendancy now. This needs to be taken into consideration with the fact that there has not yet been a Boris howler yet. Something will turn up and scupper him.

Free speech allows you you to say whatever you like. It is not without consequences though so whilst you can pretty much say what you like, you can also be taken to task if that said freedom of speech involves discriminatory or defamatory content.
My understanding of Godders' indignation is that the implication of referring to Corbyn as "Grandad" is that Corbyn is somehow less able to do something because of his age. If the task was to run 100m really fast, then that might have validity but if the task is to be a politician, then age has no real relevance.
The Tory party is full of isms, pretty much the whole collection if you dig deep enough and to defend them by using the the free speech argument is to validate a whole raft of discriminatory ideas.

***other parties also tell lies so not being discriminatory towards the Tories***

Unfortunately, I don't think any of it matters. One of the really telling things with Boris, in polling, has been the split between the public's perception of his honesty, and his likability: polling consistently finds that voters overwhelmingly believe that he's an out-of-touch liar, and yet likable/unlikable is at worst an even split. That dichotomy is something you see with Trump, as well: once you have a baked-in reputation for some hideous character defect and people decide to overlook it, you pretty well have a free pass from that point forward.

And with Boris, it's not unintentional. Being a dishonest, unprincipled, self-serving charlatan is just his nature, sure, but it's also something that he has turned into a brand. If you're predisposed to like him, he's a cheeky rogue who thumbs his nose at the stuffy political conventions of, y'know, telling the truth or doing your job properly. If you're predisposed to dislike him, you aren't the target audience. And sadly, the past few years have demonstrated that there's a remarkably large audience for unrestrained dickishness, particularly when he's the avatar of a Brexit movement that hinges on the same.

Ageism is as unpleasant as racism and sexism. The implication by the caller was that Corbyn was not up to the job because he was old. Corbyn is only 70 FFS which makes him still a young man as far as I am concerned. He answered all the questions put to him and he didn't need to write them down because his brain couldn't hold three questions in his head simultaneously as "liability" Johnson had to.

Johnson always reminds me of the many student exam papers I have marked where it is quite clear the student didn't know the answer so wrote about something he/she did know about even though it was not linked to the question in any way at all.

I do hope you’re correct, but I still fear not. In my mini social group he is still the majority choice and that is amongst some intelligent and professional* people

You`re right, many Scots would vote tactically to get spaffer and his cronies out. in my constituency that means voting SNP, as I`m ashamed to say, it is a tory held seat with a majority of 4000. I`m confident that the SNP will win this one, despite the tories recently sacking the previous man-groping, expenses fiddling incumbent.

Postal ballot arrived here in The Hague in good time. It's the Henry on Thames constituency 22k+ tory majority MP John boot licker-brown nose Howell. Safe to say he won't get my vote.

From what I’m reading and hearing, the electorate are reading the rags who are demonising Corbyn and believing that a “return to socialism” will sound the death knell of this country. This business of “if I earn 80k, I’ll be caned tax wise” is simply not true. If you earn under £100k pa you’ll be paying less a month than the cost of a good bottle of wine. Personally that wouldn’t bother me if I could get this crooked bunch out, but the way the Scum and Fail scream their headlines you’d believe it was the end of the world. And the idiots in the electorate will only read sound bites (mixed metaphor intended) and not look behind the story. It depresses me and I hope you’re correct. I’d like to see Labour and LD working together to fix Thid country, but, sadly I don’t see it happening.
I’m as pessimistic about this election as I am about Saints chances of staying up this season .....

Dave, the most pitiful thing about a large section of the electorate is that they'll shout about the bit I put in bold when the reality is that they will NEVER be in that bracket anyway. I appreciate that some have aspirations toward reaching those kinds of income levels but there is a bloody good reason why the average wage in this country is about £28k.
Another ludicrous thing is that a massive proportion of the working class have never experienced Socialism as they've only seen Tory and Blairite governments so lap up the lies and exageration portrayed in the rags.
The final bit of stupidity in my opinion, is that ordinary working people on average incomes, with ordinary prospects and abilities seem to think that they are not working class at all and are in fact middle class - the working class to them being those people who either don't work at all, or do the very worst paid menial jobs etc. Big wake up call coming to a huge slice of our deluded population if a Tory government gains a working majority
