Had no idea it was quite as bad as this, almost as bad as at BWFC and Sheff Utd.

I saw us win there in March 86 in front of 6,227, which is the type of gate they used to get until that local millionaire nutter spaffed his wad on them.

Lively day that day but we prevailed, also saw the draw in the snow under Nigel Pearson.

No idea how we always win at NFFC but always lose on Teesside.

Someone should do a thesis on it.

I was there that day in 1986 , but apart from the FA cup win in 2014 the other matches at their place have seen awful entertainment and City beaten by the odd goal .

Just seen the HDM article . As you say the stats are very poor , 21 visits with 19 City defeats and us not even scoring on a regular basis . The thing about our win that day is that you look at their team and think with the players they had , how did they get relegated that season . Didn't they have the gates to Ayresome Park locked during the following season and had to play some home games at Darlington or Hartlepool .

I remember that game in the PL under Phelan, absolutely horrible game. I remember saying to a mate who’s a Boro fan, that both teams deserved to be relegated on that performance alone!
The return fixture, however, under Marco, was an absolute stormer!

Remember that day really well. I had to drive from Newcastle to Barnsley to pick up a dog. Listened to the game on the radio on the drive back in absolutely atrocious, deteriorating driving conditions thinking that anyone at the game would really struggle to get back down the A19.

We often go there higher in the table and them struggling in recent history and still lose too.

The announcer during the game said "The A19 is still passable" like leave now or else.

Hartlepool game was called off as were driving up.

Worth it just to see us avoid defeat up there.

Our little battle wagon pulled into Yarm ( might even have been Thirsk) just as the snow was threatening. Parked up and made for the pub for opening time. By the time we left if was nearly a foot deep in snow outside.
I was certain the game would have been called off.
The snow blizzard at St Andrews a couple of seasons back ran it close though.

You used to be able to park next to some derelict industrial buildings just outside the ground, it was full of old scrap metal and was quite hilly. When we came out, it had snowed so much, you had no idea where the road was and what lied beneath, took us about an hour to get out.
