A bitter sweet day today. My mum had a fall 4 weeks ago and broke her hip in two places. Had to attend a meeting today regarding her discharge plan. It’s been decided that returning home is not an option, so she will be going into a home. Really happy that she will be safe and get the care she needs, but sad that the family home will no longer be the family home.
All the best fella. Had that with my old girl before she passed and we are now going through similar with the mother-in-law.
Family members getting old really sucks especially when it starts impacting on the quality of life. Take care buddy
Sadly it's the only option once they've had a fall of that nature. Same happened to a relative of my family, thankfully she had one of those personal neck alarm devices to raise the alarm. I got there before the ambulance arrived, found her slumped on the floor up against a door post, I guess she had been trying to get back up. Soon as she saw me, it's like help me up! I naturally refused, and told her the ambulance is on its way. Good job I hadn't helped her up, broken hip. She was never able to come home again.
Sorry to hear that mate. It's quite an adjustment when a parent has to go into care. But as you'll already know, it's for her best interests. Good luck with it all fella.
She has dementia so her living on her own was starting to become a worry. Saying it is not safe for her to return home was a relief.
